Job description

Job Summary:

The Terminal Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant handling of liquid and solid materials at an industrial terminal facility. This includes operating pumps, valves, and processing equipment to move, treat, and store materials. The role also covers key tasks such as handling filter drums, performing solid bulking, managing hazardous waste in 10-day accumulation areas, and processing the cooker to remove water from materials. Operators are expected to follow strict environmental, health, and safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

Product & Material Handling:

  1. Load and unload bulk liquids and solids from railcars, tank trucks, and storage tanks.
  2. Operate pumps, meters, valves, and other equipment to safely transfer materials.
  3. Process the cooker to remove water from materials by monitoring temperature, flow rates, and moisture content—ensuring proper separation and disposal of water phase.
  4. Transfer materials between tanks and containers while ensuring proper blending and compatibility.

Hazardous Waste & Environmental Operations:

  1. Safely handle and transfer filter drums, ensuring they are properly sealed, labeled, and stored.
  2. Perform solid bulking of compatible waste streams according to waste profiles and compatibility charts.
  3. Manage 10-day hazardous waste accumulation areas, ensuring containers are dated, inspected, and shipped within regulatory timelines.
  4. Properly label and track all hazardous waste materials and maintain compliance with RCRA standards.

Safety & Compliance:

  1. Follow all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), PPE usage, and confined space entry protocols.
  2. Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and company safety/environmental standards.
  3. Respond to spills and emergencies promptly and appropriately.
  4. Participate in required safety training, drills, and meetings.

Equipment Operation & Maintenance:

  1. Operate forklifts, drum handlers, hand tools, and computerized control panels.
  2. Inspect and perform routine maintenance on equipment; report defects or safety hazards.
  3. Perform daily and pre-operation inspections, including checklists and start-up logs.

Administrative & Recordkeeping Duties:

  1. Complete operational documentation, including offloading checklists, tank transfers, water content logs, and cooker operation logs.
  2. Maintain proper documentation for inspections, waste transfers, and treatment operations.
  3. Accurately report data into internal systems and ensure logs are updated in real-time.

Facility Maintenance & Support:

  1. Keep terminal areas—including tank farms and drum storage—clean and organized.
  2. Support maintenance tasks such as painting, minor repairs, and facility upgrades.
  3. Assist with special projects, inventory, and audits as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities:

  • Loading and unloading tankers.
  • Maintaining Tank farm inventories.
  • Moving trucks around yard.
  • Testing oil samples that come in the door.
  •  Help with cleaning the tank farm, warehouse, and yard.

QUALIFICATIONS

What does it take to work for Safety-Kleen?

  • HS Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Class B CDL Required
  • Ability to drive trucks within facility.
  • Forklift skills preferred (Not Required).
  • Tank Farm experience preferred (Not Required).
