Job description

The Senior Logistics Manager is responsible for the end-to-end leadership, optimization, and execution of Traditional Medicinals' global and domestic logistics network. This role oversees international inbound transportation, domestic intercompany transfers, and outbound distribution, ensuring service excellence, cost efficiency, and operational scalability.
This position plays a critical role in managing global freight operations (including ocean container logistics), domestic transportation networks, and intercompany product flows across manufacturing plants, distribution centers, co-packers, and third-party warehouses. The Senior Logistics Manager will also lead logistics financial planning, reporting, and cost control, driving improved visibility, accountability, and disciplined decision-making across all transportation activities.
In addition, this role will support the development of future international botanical consolidation hubs (e.g., Germany and India), helping to design scalable logistics infrastructure that supports long-term supply chain resilience and growth.
This leader partners cross-functionally with Procurement, Planning, Manufacturing, Quality, Finance, and external logistics partners to ensure seamless, compliant, and efficient movement of goods across the network
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Global Logistics Strategy & Network Design
  • Lead the design and continuous improvement of Traditional Medicinals' global logistics network, including inbound botanicals, intercompany transfers, and outbound distribution
  • Develop scalable logistics strategies to support international consolidation hubs, including potential operations in Europe & India.
  • Optimize routing strategies, port selection, consolidation points, and transportation modes
  • Evaluate and manage, freight forwarder, broker and carrier strategies
  • Develop contingency plans to mitigate risks related to supply disruptions, port congestion, and geopolitical challenges

International Freight & Container Management
  • Manage end-to-end international inbound logistics, including ocean, air, and intermodal transportation
  • Oversee container planning, booking, and utilization (FCL/LCL strategies)
  • Partner with freight forwarders and customs brokers to ensure compliance with global trade regulations and import/export requirements
  • Drive improvements in:
    • Transit time reliability
    • Container utilization and cost efficiency
    • Reduction of demurrage, detention, and accessorial charges
  • Establish and maintain standardized processes for documentation, Incoterms alignment, and customs compliance

Domestic Logistics & Intercompany Transfers
  • Own and optimize domestic transportation flows, including:
    • Plant-to-plant transfers
    • Distribution center replenishment
    • Co-manufacturer and co-packer movements
  • Develop and manage lane strategies and mode optimization (truckload, LTL, intermodal)
  • Improve load consolidation, routing efficiency, and network utilization
  • Partner with Planning and Manufacturing to:
    • Reduce expedited freight
    • Improve shipment scheduling and production alignment
    • Enhance overall network efficiency
  • Establish governance and standardized processes for intercompany freight planning and execution
  • Monitor and reduce inefficiencies such as partial loads, empty miles, and unnecessary transfers
Outbound Distribution & Customer Fulfillment
  • Oversee transportation planning and execution for customer shipments and finished goods distribution
  • Ensure high service levels while balancing cost efficiency across all outbound lanes
  • Collaborate with Customer Service, Sales, and Distribution teams to ensure consistent and reliable delivery performance
  • Drive continuous improvement in on-time delivery performance (target ≥98%)

Financial Ownership, Reporting & Cost Discipline
  • Manage the logistics budget, including domestic freight, international transportation spend
  • Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and monthly performance tracking
  • Establish and enforce financial discipline across logistics operations, including:
    • Freight approval processes
    • Mode selection guidelines
    • Accessorial cost control
  • Build and maintain robust reporting and analytics, including:
    • Freight spend vs. budget and forecast
    • Cost per unit / cost per pound trends
    • Lane-level cost and performance analysis
  • Partner with Finance to improve:
    • Forecast accuracy
    • Accrual processes
    • Budget transparency
  • Identify and execute cost savings initiatives, including carrier sourcing events, network optimization, and improved planning discipline
Carrier, Freight Forwarder and Broker Management
  • Support the Director of Logistics in managing relationships with:
    • Domestic carriers
    • Ocean carriers
    • Freight forwarders
    • Customs brokers
    • Third-party logistics providers (collaboration related to transportation detail)
  • Administer and monitor service level agreements (SLAs) and KPIs
  • Coordinate regular performance reviews and drive continuous improvement
  • Serve as an escalation point for critical transportation or service issues

Systems, Data & Reporting Excellence
  • Lead optimization and utilization of logistics systems, including TMS platforms (e.g., OTM) and ERP systems
  • Develop and standardize logistics KPIs and reporting dashboards, including:
    • On-time delivery performance
    • Freight cost metrics
    • Capacity utilization
  • Improve data accuracy, visibility, and accessibility across systems
  • Implement reporting that supports proactive decision-making and continuous improvement
  • Partner with IT and Finance to enhance system integration and reporting capabilities
Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Serve as the primary logistics partner to:
    • Procurement (supplier freight terms, Incoterms, inbound strategy)
    • Planning (inventory positioning, lead times, network flow)
    • Manufacturing (production alignment and scheduling)
    • Quality (handling and compliance requirements for botanicals)
  • Support strategic sourcing initiatives by enabling efficient and compliant global transportation flows
  • Contribute to S&OP / IBP processes through logistics insights and constraints
Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the logistics team members
  • Establish clear goals, performance expectations, and accountability
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and operational excellence

SUPERVISORY/BUDGET:
  • Ability to directly manage staff
  • Will be responsible for overseeing adherence to current logistics budget

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field (MBA preferred)
  • 7-10+ years of progressive logistics or supply chain experience
  • Demonstrated experience in:
  • International freight (import/export, navigating customs and tariffs) and ocean container logistics
  • Domestic transportation and network management
  • Budget ownership and financial analysis
  • Experience in mid-sized or growth-stage companies preferred
  • Experience with botanical, agricultural, or food supply chains is a plus

Technical Skills
  • Experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) such as OTM preferred
  • RP system experience (e.g., Microsoft AX or similar)
