Consumer Insight Marketing information

What is consumer insight marketing?

Consumer Insight Marketing is a strategy that involves understanding consumer behaviors, preferences, and motivations to inform and improve marketing efforts. By analyzing data from surveys, focus groups, social media, and purchase patterns, companies gain valuable insights into what drives their customers' decisions. These insights help businesses create targeted campaigns, develop products that meet consumer needs, and foster stronger customer relationships. Ultimately, Consumer Insight Marketing helps companies stay competitive by aligning their offerings with what matters most to their audience.

How does a consumer insight marketing professional typically collaborate with product development teams?

Consumer Insight Marketing professionals work closely with product development teams by sharing data-driven findings about customer preferences, behaviors, and market trends. They participate in cross-functional meetings, provide actionable insights from market research, and ensure that new products or features align with consumer needs. Regular communication helps bridge the gap between what customers want and what the company creates, resulting in more targeted and successful products.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a consumer insight marketing professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Consumer Insight Marketing professional, you need strong analytical skills, a background in marketing or market research, and familiarity with consumer behavior theories. Expertise in market research tools like Nielsen, SPSS, or Qualtrics, along with data visualization software, is typically required. Excellent communication, critical thinking, and presentation skills help you translate complex data into actionable business strategies. These skills are crucial for uncovering consumer trends and driving informed marketing decisions that align with organizational goals.

  • Collaborates with other data and analytics teams and procures internal resources as needed to support research objectives.

  • Informs ongoing brand tracking, trend watching, competitive intelligence, and consumer perception studies.

  • Operates skillfully within established software platforms, adapts quickly to new tools when introduced, and develops expert-level proficiency in at least one tool within the team's portfolio.

  • Continuously learns and applies new tools and technologies to interpret customer feedback, proactively seeking advantage from new capabilities.

  • Keeps customers at the center of the analytic approach, analysis and solutions, and partners with cross-functional teams to drive a customer-centered focus at Meijer.

  • This job profile is not meant to be all inclusive of the responsibilities of this position; may perform other duties as assigned or required.

What You Bring with You (Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's Degree in market research, business, psychology, social sciences, or related field. Master's Degree is preferred.

  • Previous CPG, merchandising, and/or retail experience is a plus.

  • Proficiency across a wide array of quantitative and qualitative research tools and methods.

  • Ability to independently scope, design and manage multi-phased or multi-method customer insights engagements.

  • Demonstrated ability with advanced analytics tools.

  • Strong analytical skills to assess, interpret, and translate multiple data sources into actionable shopper/category insights.

  • Experience tailoring communications to different audiences and communicating to multiple brand leadership, cross-functional team members, agency and retail partners, etc.

  • Ability to consult with business partners, clarify ambiguous needs, and connect insights to business objectives.

  • Effective creative problem-solving skills.
