What is a consulting contract?

A consulting contract is a legally binding agreement between a consultant and a client that outlines the terms, scope, and conditions of the consulting services to be provided. It typically covers details such as deliverables, payment terms, duration of the engagement, confidentiality, and any intellectual property rights. Consulting contracts help protect both parties by clarifying expectations and responsibilities, reducing the risk of misunderstandings or disputes. These agreements are essential for establishing a professional working relationship and ensuring both parties are aligned on objectives and outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a consulting contractor?

To thrive as a Consulting Contractor, you need expertise in your field, strong analytical abilities, and a proven track record of delivering results, often supported by relevant degrees or professional certifications. Familiarity with project management tools, data analysis software, and industry-specific platforms is typically expected. Exceptional communication, adaptability, and self-management skills help you build client trust and manage projects independently. These competencies are crucial for consistently meeting client expectations, maintaining professional relationships, and delivering high-impact solutions.

What are some common challenges consultants face when working on contract-based projects?

Consultants on contract-based projects often encounter challenges such as adapting quickly to new organizational cultures, managing client expectations, and balancing multiple projects with overlapping deadlines. Since each client may have different processes and communication styles, consultants must be flexible and proactive in building relationships and clarifying project goals. Additionally, contract consultants are responsible for their own time management and may need to handle administrative tasks like invoicing and documenting deliverables, which can add to the workload but also provide valuable business experience.

Why Join Us?

Indie has grown from a small team into a partner for some of the most exciting brands in CPG and beyond over the past 8 years, and we're not close to done! We are looking for great people who are energized by the opportunity to build & shape what comes next for Indie and are excited to grow along with us.

  • A team that leads with empathy and still delivers at a high level. We don't think you have to choose.
  • Work alongside a passionate, collaborative team supporting some of the world's most admired beauty brands.
  • Gain exposure to high-impact PR campaigns, product launches, and influencer programs with global reach.
  • Enjoy a flexible, remote-first environment with opportunities for in-person collaboration and events.

About Indie

Founded in 2018, Indie Consulting is a fast-growing, strategy-led marketing consultancy that partners with some of the most exciting brands in CPG and beyond! We foster an empowering environment built on creativity and dedication, helping our clients tell their stories with clarity and impact.

At Indie, we’ve created a collaborative culture where professional and personal growth is the norm. Our team leads with empathy, supports one another, and strives to deliver meaningful results that leave things better than we found them. If you’re energized by smart strategy, great people, and real opportunities for growth, we’d love to meet you!

Role Overview

Indie Consulting is seeking an experienced Senior PR Operations Consultant to support the PR team for a leading global beauty brand.

This is a hands-on role for a seasoned PR professional who already understands how sophisticated brand communications programs operate and can quickly step into a fast-moving environment. The role is inherently supportive and operational, but it is not junior: success requires strong PR judgment, independent ownership, and the ability to anticipate what needs to happen next without significant training or oversight.

The ideal candidate is someone who has meaningful PR experience and enjoys staying close to the work without needing to own the overall strategy or lead the account. Experience within beauty, CPG, wellness, or another complex consumer brand environment is highly valuable.

Key Responsibilities:

PR Operations & Execution

  • Provide hands-on operational support to senior PR leads across multiple concurrent campaigns and initiatives.
  • Translate conversations and decisions into clear actions, owners, timelines, and follow-up.
  • Independently maintain workbacks, trackers, calendars, status documents, and project documentation.
  • Anticipate needs, identify gaps or risks, and proactively move work forward.
  • Review fact sheets, messaging, briefing documents, press materials, note cards, and other PR deliverables with an experienced PR lens.
  • Coordinate materials, feedback, approvals, and deliverables across internal and external partners.

Agency & Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Work closely with PR agency partners and cross-functional brand, influencer, social, and marketing teams.
  • Understand agency roles and responsibilities and help ensure work moves efficiently between stakeholders.
  • Maintain clear visibility into priorities, dependencies, deadlines, and outstanding decisions.
  • Proactively follow up with stakeholders and drive accountability without requiring direction at every step.

Events, Activations & Seeding

  • Support planning and execution of press events, activations, product launches, and brand experiences.
  • Coordinate event workbacks, materials, logistics, and follow-up.
  • Support product seeding and send-outs, including coordination, tracking, and reporting.
  • When local, participate in NYC-area events, activations, agency meetings, and other in-person needs as appropriate.

Measurement & Reporting

  • Support earned media and campaign reporting.
  • Organize coverage, results, insights, and campaign highlights for internal and client-facing materials.
  • Maintain accurate, accessible reporting and documentation across workstreams.
Requirements:
  • 7+ years of relevant PR/communications experience, with the judgment to operate independently from day one.
  • Meaningful experience supporting consumer brands, ideally within beauty, personal care, wellness, or CPG.
  • Strong understanding of how PR programs move from strategy through agency execution, activation, and measurement.
  • Experience navigating complex organizations and working across brand teams, agencies, and cross-functional partners.
  • Exceptional project management, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Highly proactive communicator who follows through consistently and raises issues before they become problems.
  • Comfortable owning both high-level coordination and detailed execution.
  • Able to quickly determine “what good looks like” without requiring extensive direction.
  • Low ego and genuinely energized by a hands-on, supportive role despite having significant experience.

Contract Details

  • 80 hours/month
  • September–December 2026
  • Work will primarily take place during standard Eastern Time business hours.
  • Compensation commensurate with experience.
