Peak Utility Infrastructure is an integrated engineering and construction company that serves the Electric, Natural Gas, and Telecommunications industries.  We provide a full suite of engineering, construction, operations, and maintenance services, including repair, replacement, maintenance, and installation of natural gas, telecommunications, and electric infrastructure through our operating subsidiaries: 5 Star Electric, SiteWise, Kelly Cable, Riley Brothers, and Superior Pipeline Services.

Essential Functions:

A Substation Wireman installs, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring and equipment in substations, ensuring safe, reliable operation of highvoltage power systems. This position is responsible for installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems within substations — the facilities that step down highvoltage transmission power for local distribution. They handle components such as transformers, circuit breakers, protective relays, and switchgear, and must comply with strict safety regulations and the National Electrical Code (NEC).

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and repair wiring and electrical components in substations.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical documents.
  • Conduct inspections, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical equipment.
  • Perform switching operations and system upgrades as directed.
  • Respond to emergencies and restore power after outages
  • Document work, update service records, and maintain organized work areas.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and other electrical staff.
  • Train and mentor junior staff when assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and use proper PPE.

Success Factors:

  • OSHA 1910.269 and NFPA 70E compliance knowledge
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs multiple times during a work shif
  • Ability to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping, and kneelin
  • Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team with co-workers
  • Ability to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policy
  • English usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reports
  • Willingness and ability to learn additional skills

Experience and Education:

  • High school diploma or GED; electrical training program completion.
  • Completion of an electrical apprenticeship or equivalent (often 3 years) and passing the IBEW exam
  • Knowledge of electrical theory, wiring methods, and high voltage systems.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, SCADA, and control/communication systems
  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varied weather conditions.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem solving, and communication skills.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Physical stamina for manual labor.

Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver’s License is required within two weeks of employment.
  • Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
