Salary: $32-$40/hour + $100 per diem/days worked

Journeyman Electrician Substation Construction

Location: Fayetteville, NC
Position Type: Part-time

Position Summary

We are seeking experienced Journeyman Electricians to support the construction of a new electrical substation in Raeford, North Carolina. This position is responsible for installing conduit systems, cable tray, power and control wiring, electrical equipment terminations, and associated electrical infrastructure required for substation construction and energization.

The ideal candidate has experience bending and installing rigid steel conduit, reading electrical drawings, pulling and terminating cable, and working on industrial, utility, power generation, or substation construction projects.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Conduit & Raceway Installation

  • Measure, fabricate, bend, thread, and install rigid steel conduit (RMC) and other raceway systems.
  • Install conduit runs in accordance with project specifications and electrical drawings.
  • Install cable tray, supports, strut systems, and associated hardware.
  • Layout and coordinate conduit routing with other trades.

Cable Installation

  • Pull, route, label, and secure power, control, and communication cables.
  • Install cable supports and cable management systems.
  • Ensure proper cable separation and routing requirements are maintained.

Electrical Equipment Installation

  • Install junction boxes, pull boxes, control panels, and electrical enclosures.
  • Assist with installation of transformers, breakers, disconnect switches, CTs, PTs, and other substation equipment.
  • Install grounding conductors and equipment bonding systems.

Terminations & Wiring

  • Terminate power, control, and instrumentation cables.
  • Install and wire control panels, relay panels, and associated equipment.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and construction drawings.
  • Verify wiring accuracy and perform quality control inspections.

Testing & Commissioning Support

  • Perform continuity and insulation resistance testing.
  • Assist commissioning personnel during startup and energization activities.
  • Troubleshoot wiring and installation issues.
  • Complete punch-list and project closeout items.

Safety

  • Follow all OSHA, company, client, and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Participate in daily safety meetings and job hazard analyses.
  • Maintain proper use of PPE and fall protection equipment.
  • Work safely around energized equipment, heavy equipment, and active construction operations.


Qualifications

Required

  • Journeyman Electrician experience in industrial, utility, power generation, or heavy commercial construction.
  • Demonstrated experience bending and installing rigid steel conduit.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and specifications.
  • Experience pulling and terminating power and control cables.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Valid drivers license and reliable transportation.

Preferred

  • Substation construction experience.
  • Medium-voltage or high-voltage electrical experience.
  • NCCER Electrical certification.
  • Experience with relay wiring and control systems.
  • Experience with grounding systems and electrical testing.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, and work throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work from ladders, aerial lifts, and elevated work platforms.
  • Ability to perform work in outdoor construction environments.


Compensation & Benefits

  • $32-$40 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Overtime opportunities available.
  • Per diem for days worked


Preferred Background

Candidates with experience on electrical substations, switchyards, power plants, industrial facilities, water treatment plants, data centers, or other heavy industrial electrical projects are strongly encouraged to apply.
