SUMMARY
The Take-Off Engineer is responsible for analyzing and interpreting construction documents to determine quantities of heavy civil construction projects. Interpret plans and assist estimating staff with construction material and earthwork quantity take-offs, bids, and estimate set up.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Review construction documents and identify information necessary to quantify scope of work.
  • Review scope of work with assigned estimator for accuracy and completeness.
  • Interpret plans and isolate work according to areas, staging, and activities to accurately portray scope of work and areas of takeoff.
  • Ensure that accurate and complete grading, earthmoving, utility, paving, concrete, excavation and/or any other applicable quantity take-offs are prepared in a timely, professional, and competitive manner using AutoCAD, AGTEK, or similar software
  • Perform earthwork analysis utilizing latest technology software.
  • Prepares summary of quantity takeoff for estimator. Double check takeoff for accuracy and completeness.
  • Communicate with subcontractors and suppliers to solicit quotes, organize, review and complete detailed scopes of work and cost comparisons.
  • Understand the elements in the submission of public works bids (bid runs); assist bid reviews and closing.
  • Monitor and maintain standard specifications and standard plans books for various municipalities. Order updates and revisions to existing information.

QUALIFICATIONS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and/or Experience
Associate degree in Construction Management or Engineering is preferred but not required. Minimum of 2 years of experience with AutoCAD, AGTEK, computer drafting, modeling software, civil engineering, or related technology. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings. Must be able to do and understand basic math formulas for calculating areas and volumes of basic geometrical shapes. Knowledge of civil construction, materials, systems, trade practices, and take-off techniques is a plus. Computer skills: proficiency with Bluebeam and MS Office Suite of programs. Able to organize and manage work independently, professionally, and effectively. Must be able to multitask and meet established deadlines. Possess strong analytical skills.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to type, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
