Job description

Essential Functions:

The Estimator will assist the Estimating team in all aspects of the bid/estimating process from the review of plans and specifications, estimating material cost and craft labor productivity, soliciting and negotiating prices from subcontractors/suppliers through the completion of the bid/estimating effort for a variety of water/wastewater treatment and infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities:

Pre Bid:

  • Performs quantity take-offs
  • Applies self-perform labor man-hours and productivity to estimates
  • Obtains competitive commodity pricing and solicits quotations for any specialty equipment and material
  • Directs, coordinates and provides access to information and documents to subcontractors and solicits subcontractor's bids
  • Performs reviews with subcontractors and vendors to verify scopes of work and ensure scope and price are complete
  • Evaluates the lowest cost, qualified subcontractor/bid
  • Communicates with engineers to clarify scope of work, materials, schedule requirements and documents these clarifications
  • Proposal development
  • Actively participates in the internal estimate review process
  • Assists with final assembly of estimate including proposal presentation

Post Bid:

  • Collects and organizes all bid information for future reference
  • Prepares summary of bid hand-off on successful bids
  • Explains scope and cost estimate for project presentation
  • Aids in maintaining historical data
  • Participates in buy-out of subcontracts and material purchase order
  • Supports project management team in pricing and negotiating change orders
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the manager or his/her designee

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering or related field or comparable field experience and training
  • Minimum of eight (5) years construction experience with at least four (2) years estimating in water/wastewater or heavy civil industry
  • Design-build and Construction Manager at risk experience a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) as well as the use of the internet
  • Timberline experience desirable
  • Planswift experience helpful.
  • Must have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Working Conditions:

100% of the time is spent in the office environment utilizing computers (frequent use of MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Timberline, Plan swift) telephones, and general office equipment.
