The Estimating Takeoff Specialist plays a key role in supporting EMCโ€™s preconstruction and estimating teams by performing detailed material and labor takeoffs from construction drawings and specifications. Each specialist will focus on one of EMCโ€™s core tradesโ€”Plumbing or Mechanical Pipingโ€”leveraging their trade expertise to ensure accuracy and efficiency in the bidding process.

What Youโ€™ll Do:

  • Review construction documents (plans, specifications, addenda) to identify project scope, materials, and labor requirements.
  • Perform accurate quantity takeoffs and input data into estimating software.
  • Collaborate with estimators and project managers to clarify scope, resolve discrepancies, and confirm assumptions.
  • Maintain organized records of takeoff data and revisions throughout the bid cycle.
  • Assist with vendor and subcontractor outreach as needed for material pricing.
  • Support continuous improvement in takeoff processes, templates, and tools.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings and internal reviews to provide technical input.
  • Stay current with industry standards, materials, and installation methods specific to assigned trade.

What Youโ€™ll Bring:

Required:

  • Minimum 3โ€“5 years of field experience in one of the following trades:
    • Plumbing
    • Sheet Metal / HVAC Ductwork
    • Mechanical Piping (Hydronic or Steam Systems)
  • Strong understanding of trade-specific systems, materials, and installation practices.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
  • Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Excel, PDF markup tools, and/or estimating software).
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred:

  • Experience with estimating software (e.g., Trimble, QuoteSoft, FastEST, or similar).
  • Prior experience in an estimating or preconstruction support role.
  • Technical training, apprenticeship completion, or trade certification.
