This is a field leadership position for an experienced construction professional who takes ownership of the jobsite, knows how to drive a schedule, holds subcontractors accountable, identifies problems before they become delays, and takes pride in delivering a high-quality project to the client. BCG is a multi-state General Contractor specializing in Retail, Big Box Retail, Restaurants, Medical Offices, Fitness, Health & Wellness, Dental, Urgent Care Facilities, and other commercial construction, including both ground-up construction and interior fit-outs/retrofits. THE POSITION The Construction Superintendent is BCG’s field leader on the project and works in partnership with the Project Manager to deliver the project safely, on schedule, within budget, in accordance with the contract documents, and at the level of quality expected by both BCG and our clients. The Superintendent is expected to actively manage the project—not simply observe it. That means planning ahead, communicating with subcontractors before their work is scheduled to begin, verifying manpower and materials, coordinating inspections, identifying potential conflicts, documenting field conditions, maintaining quality standards, and taking corrective action when the project begins deviating from the plan. Successful BCG Superintendents take ownership of their projects from mobilization through punch list and final turnover. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES Field Leadership & Project ExecutionLead day-to-day field operations from construction start through final completion and turnover.Work in partnership with the Project Manager and project team to achieve the project’s schedule, quality, safety, financial, and client-service objectives.Participate in the Project Turnover Meeting and develop a thorough understanding of project scope, schedule, logistics, milestones, inspections, owner requirements, and potential project risks.Attend and lead project meetings as required, including preconstruction, subcontractor coordination, progress, safety, and owner/architect meetings.Maintain a professional, organized, clean, and well-managed jobsite that reflects BCG’s standards.Serve as BCG’s primary field representative and demonstrate professional leadership when interacting with owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, vendors, and project stakeholders. Scheduling & Look-Ahead Planning BCG expects its Superintendents to work the schedule, not simply report whether the project is ahead or behind. Responsibilities include:Maintain and execute the project schedule.Prepare and maintain a detailed 2–3 Week Look-Ahead Schedule coordinated with the overall project schedule.Contact subcontractors in advance of scheduled activities to confirm:Mobilization datesRequired manpowerMaterials and equipmentRequired submittalsRequired inspectionsPredecessor activitiesUpcoming milestonesVerify that subcontractors have procured the materials and equipment necessary to perform their work when scheduled.Continuously evaluate actual progress against planned progress.Identify potential schedule problems early and develop recovery strategies with the Project Manager.Require subcontractors to increase manpower or adjust sequencing when necessary to maintain project milestones.Coordinate work between trades to minimize conflicts, downtime, and rework. Subcontractor ManagementDirect and coordinate subcontractors and vendors performing work on the project.Establish clear expectations regarding schedule, manpower, workmanship, safety, housekeeping, and coordination.Verify that subcontractors are performing the correct scope of work in accordance with contract documents.Hold subcontractors accountable for commitments and required completion dates.Identify manpower deficiencies and address them before they impact the overall schedule.Coordinate upcoming work between trades and verify that prerequisite work is complete before the next activity begins.Maintain professional but firm relationships with subcontractors and trade partners. Quality Control Quality begins before installation. The Superintendent is expected to proactively verify that work is being installed correctly rather than waiting until punch list to identify problems. Responsibilities include:Maintain current knowledge of drawings, specifications, approved submittals, RFIs, ASIs, sketches, and authorized revisions.Review upcoming work before installation to identify potential constructability or coordination issues.Verify layouts and critical dimensions before subcontractors proceed with installation.Conduct regular field inspections of work in progress.Confirm workmanship and installed materials comply with project requirements.Coordinate required testing and inspections.Immediately identify deficient work and establish a corrective-action plan.Conduct pre-installation coordination for critical or complex scopes when appropriate.Prevent avoidable rework through proactive field coordination and verification. Safety The Superintendent is responsible for maintaining a safe, professional, and organized project site. Responsibilities include:Enforce BCG’s safety requirements and applicable OSHA regulations.Promote a culture in which unsafe conditions are identified and corrected immediately.Conduct and participate in required safety meetings.Verify subcontractors comply with project-specific safety requirements.Maintain appropriate safety documentation.Immediately address unsafe conditions or work practices.Maintain jobsite cleanliness, access, organization, and housekeeping throughout construction. Documentation & Communication Strong documentation is an essential responsibility of the Superintendent. The Superintendent will:Complete accurate Daily Job Reports.Document manpower, subcontractors on site, work performed, deliveries, inspections, delays, weather conditions, and significant project events.Maintain current field documentation.Maintain daily red-line/as-built drawings throughout construction.Document field conditions and potential scope conflicts.Communicate potential schedule, cost, quality, safety, or scope issues to the Project Manager promptly.Prepare incident reports when required.Maintain project photographs and other required field documentation.Use Procore and other BCG project-management systems as required. BCG expects problems to be communicated early enough for the project team to do something about them. Inspections, Punch List & Closeout The Superintendent owns the field completion process. Responsibilities include:Coordinate required building, trade, life-safety, and other inspections.Plan inspections in advance so they support rather than delay the project schedule.Develop and maintain punch-list activities.Drive subcontractors to complete corrective work promptly.Verify punch-list work is actually complete before reporting items closed.Coordinate final inspections and owner/architect walkthroughs.Assist with collection and verification of field closeout information.Deliver a clean, complete, professional project ready for turnover to the client. WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR The ideal candidate is an experienced commercial construction Superintendent who understands that successful field leadership requires planning, accountability, communication, technical construction knowledge, and attention to detail. Required ExperienceSignificant experience supervising commercial construction projects for a General Contractor.Strong experience with commercial ground-up construction and/or interior fit-outs and renovations.Demonstrated ability to lead subcontractors and field personnel.Extensive experience reading and interpreting architectural, structural, MEP, civil, and other construction drawings.Ability to identify discrepancies between drawings, specifications, field conditions, and subcontractor installations.Strong understanding of construction sequencing and means and methods.Experience coordinating inspections and project closeout.Valid driver’s license.Ability and willingness to travel as required by project assignments.Authorization to work indefinitely in the United States without employer sponsorship. 10+ years of commercial construction supervision experience is strongly preferred.
