Job description

Reports To: Foreman and/or Crew Leader

Status: Regular, Full Time, Non-exempt

Primary Function: Productively assist crew members in assigned tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The following list is an outline of duties and responsibilities attached to this position. It is understood that this list is intended to be representative of the functions that may reasonably be expected of the position. It is not intended to be comprehensive.

  1. Follow specific directions, proficiently performs a variety of tasks which may often change; work with standards of accuracy and safety.
  2. Assist in job layout preparing site for work by walking with crew to confirm utility markings and digging proper test holes.
  3. Assist in the excavation of job site and install/remove sheeting and shoring.
  4. Assists in building manholes and install conduit and various types of cable and pipe.
  5. Maintain a clean, safe work site by sweeping, stacking materials, picking up debris, etc.
  6. Identify types of materials and tools needed and used for the job. Properly operate and maintain tools assigned to the crew.
  7. Report and avoid use of tools in poor working condition.
  8. Report incidents, accidents, & near misses to supervisor immediately.
  9. (If Laborer/Driver) In accordance with BFJ Driver Handbook, operates company vehicles in a safe and skilled manner. Pre- and post-trip inspections are performed daily. Vehicle is maintained and kept clean and organized. Maintain valid driver’s license/record.
  10. Practice a “safety comes first” attitude by following Joy and OSHA regulations.
  11. May perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE:

Educational and experience requirements include:

  • High school degree or its equivalent or a combination of education and training experience.
  • One to two years of construction experience preferred.
  • Must have a current valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to communicate with supervisor and coworkers.
  • Must be a team player.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited, lifting materials and equipment (up to 70 pounds unassisted), standing, climbing, walking, or using hands to operate/handle tools. Weight limits up to 300 lbs.

*Must have a current valid driver’s license, valid DOT card, and pass a MVR review (no more than 3 points on driving records). Candidates selected will be responsible for completing the BF Joy Drivers Qualification Paperwork, provide a copy of a 5-year certified driving record as part of the pre-employment process. The employee would be required to attend driver orientation, and a pass road test.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
