Job Summary
The Scaffold Helper supports scaffold erection, modification, and dismantling activities on commercial and industrial job sites throughout the NYC market. This role works under the direction of the Foreman and/or Supervisor to ensure scaffolding is built safely, efficiently, and in compliance with NYC DOB, OSHA, and company standards. The position involves assisting with labor tasks, material handling, and site coordination while contributing to a safe and productive work environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Communicate effectively with foremen, supervisors, and crew members to support daily job site operations and follow direction related to job scope, sequencing, and expectations.
  • Assist in relaying field conditions or issues that may impact safety, schedule, or productivity.
  • Support the erection, modification, and dismantling of scaffolding systems in accordance with design specifications.
  • Perform general labor tasks including loading, unloading, staging, and transporting scaffold materials.
  • Assist with complex builds in urban environments, including high-rise and confined spaces.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment at all times.
  • Follow all OSHA, NYC DOB, and company safety standards, including proper use of PPE and fall protection systems.
  • Participate in daily safety briefings, toolbox talks, and hazard assessments.
  • Handle scaffold materials, tools, and equipment safely and maintain proper organization on-site and in the yard.
  • Assist with inventory tracking and ensure materials are properly stored and accounted for.
  • Support basic job site documentation, including recording time, materials, and work performed as required.
  • Work collaboratively with scaffold crews to meet productivity goals and project schedules.
  • Demonstrate reliability, accountability, and a willingness to learn advanced scaffold skills and systems.

Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of construction or scaffolding experience preferred.
  • Basic understanding of scaffold components, tools, and terminology.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively within a team.
  • Strong work ethic with a focus on safety and quality.
  • Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs, working at heights, and standing, bending, and climbing for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in various weather conditions and challenging job site environments.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
  • Valid driver's license preferred; ability to travel between NYC job sites may be required.
  • NYC SST Card (40-Hour) required in compliance with Local Law 196.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification required.
  • Familiarity with fall protection principles and site safety practices.
  • Must comply with NYC DOB regulations and site-specific requirements.
  • Willingness to obtain additional certifications (e.g., Scaffold User or Competent Person training) as needed.
  • Desire to grow into a Scaffold Builder or supervisory role.
  • Strong attention to detail, safety mindset, and ability to work in fast-paced environments.
