What is construction administration?

Construction administration is the management and oversight of a construction project from start to finish. This role involves coordinating between architects, contractors, and clients to ensure the project stays on schedule, within budget, and meets all quality and safety standards. Key responsibilities include reviewing contracts, handling documentation, overseeing progress, resolving issues, and ensuring compliance with regulations. Construction administrators play a crucial role in communicating changes and approvals throughout the building process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in construction administration, and why are they important?

To thrive in Construction Administration, you need a solid understanding of construction processes, project management, and documentation, often supported by a degree in construction management or civil engineering. Familiarity with project management software (like Procore or MS Project), contract administration systems, and building codes is typically required. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help coordinate teams and manage multiple project elements. These skills are crucial for ensuring projects stay on schedule, within budget, and comply with all regulations.
