The Role:Â
As the Assistant Camp Director, you will be responsible for supervising campers and counselors, creating activity schedules, developing programs for the camp, and assisting with the administrative tasks necessary to run a successful and engaging camp for campers, families, and staff alike. Â
Specifically, you'll:Â
- Work together with the leadership staff to cover roles and responsibilities at one of two camp bases on The Crane Estate acting as the primary supervisor of either the 5-6 year old or 7-14 year old group.  Â
The following duties will be split between the two Assistant Camp Directors:Â
- Collaboratively create and plan a thoughtful schedule of educational and fun activities. Â
- Supervise, support, and drive the weekly activity schedules implemented by Camp Educators.  Â
- Coordinate and supervise the Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program, spearheading all hiring and communications with CITs and CIT parents.   Â
- Perform administrative functions of camp (parent communications, paperwork, etc.). Â
- Act as transportation coordinator for our scholarship families to secure transportation from partnering organizations to camp. Â
- Supervise campers as needed to provide breaks for Camp Educators during the day.  Â
- Participate actively in camp planning and staff evaluation meetings.  Â
- Act as a Health Care Supervisor, along with the Camp Director, by coordinating and overseeing first aid and camper medications as necessary.  Â
- Manage photo and video content intended for parent communication and internal marketing.   Â
- Other duties as assigned. Â
This is a Seasonal, Non-Exempt position working 40 hours/week reporting directly to The Crane Estate's School and Youth Programs Manager/Camp Director.Â
Requirements
What You'll Need:Â
Skills and Experience:Â
- The ideal candidate is pursuing a degree or career in education, science, humanities, conservation/stewardship, or outdoor/environmental fields. (Bachelor's degree in education or science preferred)Â Â
- 1-3 years' experience working as a camp counselor, classroom teacher, informal educator, and/or childcare provider with children ages 5-14, environmental education (EE) experience preferred Â
- A particular interest in outdoor education, especially in a coastal environment  Â
- Experience supervising a team of individuals and providing constructive feedback  Â
- Ability to work independently and as part of a group Â
- Ability to take initiative and accomplish necessary tasks promptly with great independence Â
- A positive attitude, willingness to be flexible, and a commitment to achieving goals  Â
- High regard for teamwork and collegiality Â
- A commitment to the physical and emotional well-being of campers and staffÂ
- The physical and mental wherewithal to teach outdoors, sometimes under challenging weather and other conditionsÂ
- Lifeguard certification or willingness to obtain one highly desired but not requiredÂ
- Ability to lift 40 poundsÂ
Eligibility Criteria:Â
- Minimum age is 21 years old by the start of campÂ
- Full availability for staff training weeks (June 8-18) and all nine weeks of camp (June 23 -August 22); optional part-time availability for pre-camp preparations beginning in May.Â
- Certifications, provided as needed:Â
- CPR and Basic First Aid certificationsÂ
- ACA Camp Director course certificateÂ
- Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment.Â
- A valid driver's license, as well as a satisfactory driving record as outlined in The Trustees' driving policy.Â
- A satisfactory criminal background (CORI) check.Â
