What is a Confluence Admin?

Confluence Admins are professionals responsible for managing and maintaining the Atlassian Confluence platform within an organization. They handle user permissions, configure spaces, set up integrations, and ensure that the system runs smoothly and securely. Their role often includes troubleshooting issues, supporting users, and implementing best practices to optimize collaboration and content management. Confluence Admins play a critical role in enabling teams to effectively share knowledge and collaborate on projects.

To thrive as a Confluence Admin, you need expertise in Atlassian Confluence configuration, user management, and permissions, usually backed by experience in IT administration or a related field. Job Description

The JIRA/Confluence Administrator will enhance clarity, organization, and efficiency across an autonomous systems product lifecycle by configuring and managing Atlassian tools for a cross-functional team. This role focuses on building and maintaining Jira and Confluence environments, supporting Agile practices, and enabling smooth program increments and releases that align with stakeholder needs and broader organizational goals. The administrator will serve as a trusted advisor to technical and business stakeholders, driving automation, reporting, and continuous improvement in support of mission-critical work.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and facilitate Program Increments (PI) by coordinating requirements, organizing team knowledge, and ensuring Atlassian tooling supports planning and execution.
  • Design, build, and configure custom Atlassian projects and workflows that align with real business processes and Agile practices.
  • Configure advanced Atlassian capabilities that support continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Create, maintain, and optimize Jira projects and Confluence spaces, including Kanban boards, dashboards, and documentation pages.
  • Research, evaluate, and implement Atlassian apps, plugins, and integrated tools to extend functionality and improve team productivity.
  • Streamline, maintain, and automate Jira workflows to reduce manual effort and increase consistency and reliability.
  • Serve as a go-to advisor for a wide range of stakeholders, providing guidance on how best to use Jira, Confluence, and related tools.
  • Coach and train teams on effective usage of Jira, Confluence, dashboards, reports, and workflows to support Agile delivery.
  • Document Jira processes, configurations, and workflows to ensure clear understanding, reproducibility, and maintainability.
  • Build and maintain Jira queries, dashboards, and reports to provide actionable insights and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Recommend upgrades, enhancements, or changes to information systems and Atlassian environments based on evolving needs and best practices.
  • Gather and analyze business process requirements to identify opportunities for optimization and improved efficiency.
  • Identify and implement ways to enhance Agile Release Train (ART) efficiency and support the delivery of greater value.
  • Provide general system administration support and guidance to internal teams, troubleshooting issues and resolving configuration problems.
  • Support configuration management activities related to Jira, Confluence, and integrated tools.
  • Collaborate with engineering and IT teams to ensure proper integration of Atlassian tools with other environments such as CI/CD, cloud platforms, and reporting solutions.

Essential Skills

  • At least 5 years of experience in systems analysis and design of information systems programs.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience with Jira and Confluence administration.
  • Strong knowledge of Agile principles and applied best practices, including Kanban and scaled Agile concepts.
  • Proficiency with the Atlassian tool suite, specifically as a Jira and Confluence power user and system administrator.
  • Experience building dashboards and reports within Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience with configuration management and workflow design in Atlassian environments.
  • Ability to research, configure, and manage Atlassian plugins and integrated tools.
  • Solid understanding of information technology concepts and system administration practices.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders and provide coaching and training.
  • Active DoD SECRET security clearance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Atlassian certification related to Jira and Confluence administration or configuration.
  • Experience supporting multi-vendor integration efforts within defense or highly regulated environments.
  • Previous experience in a customer-facing or consulting role, providing guidance and solutions to external or internal clients.
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure.
  • Familiarity with Python for automation or integration tasks.
  • Knowledge of network protocols and DNS.
  • Experience with business intelligence and reporting tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
  • Experience working within the SAFe or Scaled Agile Framework.

The JIRA/Confluence Administrator will work as part of a large, collaborative engineering program alongside approximately 160 engineers focused on innovative, bleeding-edge autonomous systems technology. The environment emphasizes camaraderie, strong relationships with customers, and all-new development efforts that offer significant opportunities for growth. The role is hybrid, with three days onsite and two days remote each week, providing both in-person collaboration and flexible remote work. The administrator will be among the first engineers from their organization at the Tampa location but will receive substantial support from the broader team and leadership.
