Job Description:

Configuration Manager

Position Summary
The Configuration Manager is responsible for leading and sustaining enterprisewide configuration management (CM) for the AWAKEN program. This role manages the Configuration Control Board (CCB) cadence, maintains the enterprise hardware/software baseline, and ensures that all network, security, and system artifacts remain accurate, traceable, and compliant with AETC/USAF requirements.

The Configuration Manager also collaborates closely with engineering, cybersecurity, program management, and Government Technical Leads to support RMF documentation, change governance, and configuration integrity across all AWAKEN sites.

The Configuration Manager ensures that AWAKEN's rapidly expanding enterprise remains controlled, documented, compliant, and fully aligned with AETC's ZeroTrust, cloudnative, and modernization goals. The work directly enables mission continuity, security, and performance for thousands of Airmen across AETC training environments

Key Responsibilities

Configuration Control Board (CCB) Leadership

  • Lead, plan, and manage the CCB cadence, supporting weekly or biweekly Governmentled board proceedings; prepare agendas, minutes, and action items.
  • Review, validate, and present configuration change requests (CRs), technical updates, and baseline modifications for coordination and approval.
  • Ensure approved changes are documented, tracked, and implemented in accordance with Government direction and CM standards.

Enterprise Configuration Management

  • Maintain the complete AWAKEN enterprise configuration baseline, including devices, systems, firmware, software inventories, architectures, and all associated artifacts.
  • Develop and maintain the Configuration Management Plan (CM Plan) and update it with every baseline change or new requirement.
  • Sustain accurate network topology diagrams, rack elevations, building diagrams, IP schemas, ports/protocols lists, and software/hardware inventories.
  • Ensure configuration data is accessible to Government Technical Leads, the COR, and designated stakeholders.

Documentation & Artifact Management

  • Manage configuration artifacts for all AWAKEN IT systems, including diagrams, lists, inventories, SOPs, and dependencies.
  • Support creation and maintenance of RMF documentation (SSP, POA&Ms, STIG checklists, evidence).
  • Maintain version control, document lineage, and traceability for all enterprise artifacts.

Governance, Change Management & Compliance

  • Ensure all changes adhere to Governmentestablished processes and USAF configuration control policies.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to verify accuracy of proposed designs, implementation packages, and technical changes.
  • Track and report CMrelated risks, discrepancies, incomplete artifacts, or baseline drift.
  • Ensure that all CM activities integrate with vulnerability management, patch cycles, STIG enforcement, and system hardening activities.

Collaboration & Program Support

  • Work closely with the Program Manager, Senior Solutions Architect, Senior Network Engineer, Senior Cloud Architect, ISSM, and Customer Service Engineer.
  • Provide CM inputs during Program Management Reviews (PMRs) and project coordination meetings.
  • Ensure all changes are synchronized with helpdesk, engineering, cybersecurity, and deployment teams.
  • Enable Government readonly access to applicable CM repositories, dashboards, or tools.

Location: : San Antonio area; located within 25 miles of JBSARandolph, TX Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5 years of experience in configuration management, change governance, or IT/enterprise documentation management.
  • Experience managing configuration control boards (CCBs) or similar structured change processes in a DoD or large enterprise environment.
  • Skilled in maintaining configuration baselines, network/system inventories, and technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with RMF documentation requirements, STIGs, and CM artifacts.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills.
  • U.S. citizen with ability to obtain a Secret clearance and USAF CAC.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting the Air Force, AETC, or other DoD networked environments.
  • Familiarity with Jira/Confluence, ServiceNow, or similar CM/ITSM tools.
  • Knowledge of enterprise networking components (routers, switches, APs, controllers) preferred.
  • DoDM 8140.03aligned cyber workforce qualification or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience with SAFe practices, Jira/Confluence, and ServiceNow in DoD environments.
  • Certifications such as ITIL, CMII, or similar CMfocused credentials are a plus.

The likely salary range for this position is $111,155 - $150,385. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
