Job description

Dewberry is currently seeking a Senior Surveyor Technician for our Richmond, VA office to provide professional oversight and management for entitlement surveying services, focusing on and specializing in Boundary/ALTA Surveys, record and condominium plats, zoning exhibits, and writing legal descriptions. Applicant must be responsible, highly motivated, detail oriented with proven experience and demonstrated track record in boundary determinations, following local zoning ordinances, coordinating with title companies and attorneys in the Northern Virginia region. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. The selected individual must be committed to advancing the goals of our Land Surveying / Engineering team and overall surveying, design and consulting practices. Applicant must be able to work in a fast paced environment, manage multiple projects, engage in daily coordination with Survey Manager, Engineering Manager, Project Managers, key office staff, clients, prepare proposals and be successful in supporting business development and managing personnel who perform relevant support roles on specific project assignments.

  • Managing Boundary Survey Services, resolving matters of possession pertaining to boundary and easement rights and preparation of plats.
  • Project coordination with clients, attorneys and the engineering / surveying staff.
  • Review performance on actual projects from a quality, financial and client satisfaction perspective.
  • Coordination with management, assist in creating opportunities for staff development.
  • Validate client satisfaction of Dewberry’s performance and determine opportunities for improvement. As areas for improvement are identified, advocate internal changes necessary to improve performance.
  • Computing, computations, and drafting of plats.
  • Oversee / manage staff assisting with drafting and preparation of plats.

  • AAS or BS Degree in Surveying is preferred.
  • Licensed Land Surveyor in Virginia preferred.
  • LIST in Virginia preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in all aspects of land surveying; project management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Production of Boundary Surveys, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys and As-built plans.
  • Production of Record Plats, Easement, and Right-of-Ways.
  • Coordinate projects with multiple team members.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Carlson Civil and Survey.
  • Experience with VDOT surveys is a plus.
  • Experience with Microstation is a plus.
  • Experience with Trimble (TBC and TGO) and Carlson (Civil Suite, SurvCE) a plus.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance is a plus.
  • Ability to obtain licensure in other states a plus.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements:

  • Have the ability to work out of town if required, flexible with work area.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and pass Dewberry requirements related to clean driving record (no restrictions) in order to operate company vehicle.
  • Must be able to pass drug/alcohol screening.
