Job description

Job Title: Shift Supervisor - Concessions

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Classification: Part-time Regular

Hours: Flexible schedule available; hours may include weekend, weekday, evening, daytime, and/or holidays
Pay Rate: $16.83/hour

This is a regular part-time position working up to an average of 24 hours per week annually in an ongoing capacity, pending individual performance. Work schedules may vary week to week, month to month, or seasonally based on operational needs. 
Summary:

Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is seeking a guest-first, hospitality-driven Shift Supervisor to lead teams to ensure concession areas operate at maximum efficiency while delivering a consistently exceptional guest experience. The Shift Supervisor is responsible for creating welcoming, efficient, and guest-ready concession environments by actively supporting frontline staff, anticipating guest needs during high-volume service, resolving concerns in the moment, and ensuring service standards align with the Zoo’s commitment to memorable family experiences.

This role models positive hospitality behaviors, supports and coaches frontline staff, and ensures every guest interaction reflects professionalism, warmth, and care in a fast-paced concessions setting. The Shift Supervisor must be available five days a week with a varied schedule and will work closely with Concession Supervisors and the Assistant Manager of the Concessions Department to uphold service quality, teamwork, and operational excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

  • Oversee and assist with any and all duties assigned to the building or stand.
  • Prepare cash in registers and buildings for opening each day.
  • Ensure all employees are in approved Zoo uniform with shirt tucked in and wearing name badge.
  • Supervise building crew on the following tasks: cleaning, cooking, breaks, employee scheduling, inventory, end of day closing and stocking.
  • Ensure proper food handling and proper food portioning is understood and followed.
  • Responsible for continuous on the job training and re-training staff.
  • Accurately prepare daily paperwork and submit paperwork in folder at the end of the night, which will be given to the supervisor that checks your stand along, along with the keys to your stand.
  • Ensure first class customer service is being offered at all times.
  • Clearly communicate problems, ideas and situations to the Assistant Manager and/or Concession Supervisors.
  • Ensure proper cash handling procedures are followed.
  • Uphold and adhere to all Zoo policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:.

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Must be available to work up to 32 - 40 hours each week during the summer season, including weekends and holidays.
  • During off season, a minimum of 24 hours per week is required including weekends, holidays, and some evenings.
  • Must pass drug screening and background check.
  • Must attend and pass State of Nebraska Health Department-Food Handling course offered at the Zoo
  • Ability to work well with other people and present a positive image and attitude.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Possess good math and calculator skills.
  • Ability to work well with guests that will reflect positively on the Zoo.
  • Ability to work with employees with a wide range of ages and experiences.
  • Detail oriented with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.

Food Handler Permit Requirement:
As of February 1, 2026: All food and beverage employees at the Zoo must possess an active Food Handler Permit registered with the Douglas County Health Department at time of hire, or must successfully complete Food Handler training and obtain a certificate within 30 days of employment.  

Training is provided onsite at the Zoo,  and is paid at the employee's regular hourly rate. The Zoo will cover the certification fee ($20) for the employee's initial certification attempt. Any additional attempts required to obtain certification will be at the employee's expense. Failure to demonstrate or obtain the required certification within the specified timeframe is a violation of health code requirements and will result in termination.  

Experience:

  • Prior supervisory experience is helpful.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.

Work Environment:

Work is performed indoors in a climate controlled environment. Employee may be asked to perform in other areas which includes outdoor locations. Depending on the location, employee must adapt to warmer temps due to certain equipment such as grills and fryers. Must wear closed toe shoes. While in performance of job duties, the employee is required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, signal and feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stop; kneel; crouch and/or crawl; talk and hear and occasionally lift up to 35 pounds using safe and proper methods.
