Job description

How You’ll Contribute:

The Senior Design Engineer (SDE) is a lead member of the core team for each Faith & Performance project. The SDE provides direction and oversight through the project life cycle from sales concept to design development, construction drawings to implementation support. As the technical authority on a project team, the SDE is instrumental in the determination and execution of client and system requirements and will collaborate with F&P SME teams as required. The SDE is also responsible for mentoring other design engineers on the project team. Reporting to the Regional Director of Project Engineering, the SDE’s project assignments are determined by Operations Leadership based on enterprise-wide demands. As the final sign off on project bill of materials prior to purchasing, the SDE is responsible for vetting products and making detailed equipment decisions. As the technical leader on a project, the SDE has the authority to recommend direction on scope changes and programming and commissioning activities. The SDE will also be responsible for approving drawing packages being done by other design engineers as well as supervising them in their work.

What You’ll Do:

  • Leads complex engagements and works directly with Account Executives, clients, project teams and other DE’s to develop specifications, designs, budgets, timelines and manage expectations Negotiates changes in deliverables and schedules and is an escalation point for engineering issues. 
  • May be required to regularly lead teams on large projects. 
  • Conceptualize system designs and determine system requirements. 
  • Provide technical expertise and coordination information to support the architecture, installation and planning of live performance solutions (concert audio, cinematic multi-cam, theatrical stage lighting, house lighting, production IT, intercom, etc).
  • Develop Faith and Performance project estimates, Bill of Materials (BOM), Bid Response submissions, and project agreements in partnership with the Sales Engineer and Proposal Manager
  • Provide regular project engineering milestone status updates to Technical Operations resource planning.
  • . Test, commission, and configure subsystems during project deployment. 
  • Support projects and teams in build phase
  • Develop detailed design documentation strategy based on established engineering standard practices. Track engineering team tasks to completion. 
  • Generate functional system descriptions, complete block wiring diagrams, rack elevations, custom plates, or cabling assemblies. 
  • . Complete the as-built drawings for service hand-over. 
  • Research, identify, and recommend technology options for clients and projects. 
  • Create Sketchup Models that assist in communicating concepts to the client in the early steps of the sales engagement, as well as being used as the basis for other design deliverables through manufacturers such as loudspeaker systems, camera plots, and house lighting designs
  • DE may have client interaction and contribute to the P and L performance.
  • Project lifecycle is important and learning the standards our clients are comfortable with is just as important as selling new technology and solutions where they fit.
  • The position bears the responsibility to assist in developing long lasting client partnerships alongside the Sales Engineers & work with team members to maintain the account on all levels.
  • Maintains expertise in the industry through ongoing review of trade publications, participation in industry trade shows, seminars and educational forums. May author articles and/or analyze trends.

What You’ll Bring:

Education & Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of professional live audio or video production experience as end user in relevant field 
  • Candidates should possess a mastery of production system technologies with demonstrated specialization in at least one of the major disciplines – concert audio, broadcast video, and/or stage lighting
  • Ability to understand, synthesize and create AV system designs
  • Understanding of TCP/IP routing, QoS, VLAN’s and Wireless Access Points
  • Proficient in MS Office 365 and Apple Pages
  • Proficient in MS Excel and similar quoting tools (D-Tools, Jetbuilt, etc) for quote creation.
  • A thorough, demonstrable understanding of the construction process, installation and integration as well as architectural and construction drawings and specifications.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of broadcast technology, equipment, facilities, and production systems used in the Media and Entertainment / Broadcast industry. Formats include high-definition, UHD and HDR video systems deployed using analog, SDI and SMPTE 2110 IP transport protocols.
