SWJ Technologie specializes in providing engineering, planning, and project management services across various industries. We are currently seeking a Concept Architect - Platform for an assigned project with a client in the automotive industry. The role is based in Novi, MI or Charlotte NC and requires onsite presence and occasional domestics travel. PURPOSE:ย 
The Concept Architect, Platform is responsible for defining and developing the architecture of a scalable range-extended electric vehicle platform, including chassis, drivetrain, battery system, range extender, and key structural components. This role creates and evaluates integrated system concepts using 3D CAD to optimize packaging, performance, and customer experience, while supporting simulation, validation, and cross-functional engineering development from early concept through prototype stages.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to define and develop the range-extended EV platform architecture, including chassis, drivetrain, battery, range extender, and structural systems.
  • Develop 3D CAD-based packaging proposals to solve complex system-level engineering and functional challenges.
  • Define and refine scalable vehicle platform architecture and integration strategies.
  • Critically evaluate existing systems and propose engineering and customer experience improvements.
  • Create simulation-ready 3D models to support system analysis and cross-functional engineering validation.
  • Develop detailed technical documentation, including 2D/3D drawings, specifications, and platform design guidelines.
  • Create prototype architecture concepts for physical testing and virtual validation, including stress and performance analysis.
  • Collaborate with global, cross-functional teams to ensure alignment across vehicle systems and programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelorโ€™s or Masterโ€™s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Computer Science, or a related technical field \
  • 6+ years of experience in concept engineering or platform architecture development in the automotive industry
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Strong experience in automotive concept engineering and platform development.
  • Experience with vehicle architecture, module selection, and system integration.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools such as CATIA V5, NX, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar.
  • Experience with PLM systems (e.g., Teamcenter).
  • Strong understanding of vehicle systems including chassis, powertrain, and electrified architectures.
  • Ability to create and interpret detailed 2D and 3D engineering documentation.
  • Experience working in cross-functional and global engineering environments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and collaboration tools such as JIRA.
  • Understanding of automotive safety standards and regulations (IIHS, NHTSA, SAE, FMVSS).
  • Experience with scalable platform or modular vehicle architectures
  • Strong background in electrified vehicle systems (EV, range extender systems)
  • Experience in simulation-driven development and virtual validation environments
  • Strong customer-focused mindset with ability to translate system architecture into user experience improvements
  • Experience leading cross-functional technical integration projects
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Experience with Volkswagen
  • Willingness to travel

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Work is normally performed in an office, laboratory, manufacturing floor, or machine shop setting where physical work includes, but is not limited to sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to understand and comply with all relevant safety practices
FLSA STATUS/WORKING SCHEDULE:
  • Location: Novi, MI or Charlotte NC
  • Schedule: Full Time/ 40 hours per week
  • Travel: domestics travel as required
  • Overtime: as required
