Position Summary
Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Manager is responsible for managing proper completion of external reporting, general ledger balance reconciliations, and the reasonableness of general accounting activities including ensuring appropriate internal control structure is established for the accounting area for proper recording and reporting of all accounting transactions.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting required and/or a master's degree in related field from a regionally accredited institution.
• Seven years of experience in applying responsible accounting practice required. Accounting experience in higher education, along with detailed knowledge of GAAP, FASB and GASB regulations required. Supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong analytical capabilities; excellent written, verbal, problem solving and communication skills; critical thinking skills, in-depth working knowledge of computerized accounting systems (Banner experience a plus); demonstrated track record as a team player; proven experience with Microsoft office suite product.

Job Duties
Description of Job Duty
Ensure timely month-end closings, reconciliation of general ledger accounts and bank reconciliations, ensure external financial reporting and surveys are completed timely, team up with the external auditors to ensure timely response to audit request and monitor progress.
• Recommend, monitor, and execute accounting policies and procedures and internal controls to ensure proper accounting of revenue and expenses.
• Ensures timely and accurate processing of MSM transactions in accordance with regulations and requirements imposed by general accepted accounting principles (GAAP), the Government Accounting Standards Board ("GASB"), the Board of Regents, Federal and State grantors and other external sources.
• Responsible for ensuring accounting transactions are accurate and complete. Makes recommendations for the MSM transaction activities.
• Ensure reporting and accounting of prepaid and accrued transactions are complete and performed accurately.
• Responsible for ensuring federal and state grants and contracts are reported accurately in accordance with accounting records, working with the various grant administrators and Executive Director of Grants and Contracts as well as Compliance Manager.
• Responsible for the payments, accounting and reporting of all MSM debt requirements.
• Conducts projects, studies and analyses as assigned by the VP for Finance.
• Recommend and implements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates program effectiveness; effects changes required for improvement.
• Work closely with Grant Director regarding appropriate invoicing and reporting requirements.
• Maintains staffing to effectively accomplish the department function; supervises and evaluates departmental staff; directs the implementation of management development, skills training, and safety and labor relations programs.
• Assist in develops and manages annual department budget.
• Performs periodic cost and productivity analyses. • Performs analysis to ensure completeness and accuracy of general ledger balances.
• Other duties as assigned.
