Software Development Manager III - Cloud Data Engineering and Full Stack

About the Role

As a Software Development Manager III on the WEX Benefits Technology team, you will lead a high-performing engineering team dedicated to building the next generation of employer benefits solutions. You will be a technical leader who bridges the gap between complex business needs and scalable, full-stack cloud-native implementations. Your primary focus will be on driving engineering excellence and team growth, with an emphasis on high-performance full-stack systems that integrate seamlessly with our cloud data ecosystem.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • People & Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage your team through the successful delivery of valuable customer software, while conducting performance reviews and supporting professional development.

  • Architectural Guidance: Drive collaboration across technology teams to foster innovation and ensure your team follows guidelines for re-usable frameworks and governance of architecture patterns.

  • Engineering Excellence: Strengthen and drive engineering processes using TDD, BDD, Microservice, and Vertical Slice Architectures.

  • Strategic Collaboration: Partner closely with Product Management to provide technical guidance on software design and influence priority, expectations, and timelines within your domain.

  • Operational Ownership: Support live applications by promoting proactive monitoring, rapid incident response, and continuous improvement.

Experience & Technical Skills

Full Stack Engineering Leadership (Core Focus):

  • Management Experience: At least 5 years of management or supervisory experience leading engineering teams.

  • Engineering Tenure: At least 10 years of experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of delivering complex, enterprise-grade projects.

  • Backend Expertise: Deep proficiency in C#, .NET Framework, RESTful API design, and building Cloud-Native applications.

  • Frontend Expertise: Strong proficiency in modern Web UI frameworks such as React and Micro Front End (MFE).

  • Platform & Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud providers (specifically Azure).

  • Messaging: Mastery of event-driven design using Kafka.

Data Ecosystem Integration (Collaborative):

  • Data Awareness: While this role focuses on full-stack, you will collaborate with the Data Platform team to ensure your services align with consumption patterns in Azure Cloud and Snowflake.

  • API Design: Design and maintain robust APIs that serve as the bridge between core application services and downstream reporting consumers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (Master's preferred).

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to interact effectively with peer groups and middle management.

  • Passionate about keeping up with modern technologies and design trends.
