Stinson LLP is seeking a highly motivated patent attorney to join its Minneapolis, Minnesota office. Stinson's patent attorneys advise companies on every aspect of intellectual property law, including patent protection and strategy, enforcement and client counseling. We also defend clients against claims of infringement.

The major clients that we advise include companies in the following industries: medical devices; consumer devices; transportation; construction; agribusiness; sports and recreation; cannabis; heat, ventilating and air conditioning; infrastructure protection and repair; manufacturing equipment; and electrical and fiber optic connectors.

This position's responsibilities would include drafting and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications in the fields of electrical engineering, computer science, and software-implemented business methods, drafting and reviewing intellectual property and technology related agreements and licenses, and providing patentability, freedom to operate, and due diligence assessments.

Qualificationsย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย 

  • Juris Doctor, higher degree, or equivalent in Law
  • 7+ years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution in the electrical arts.
  • Bachelor of Science or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Physics, or related degree and/or work experience
  • Excellent academic credentials and excellent research, writing, analytical, organizational, and communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, multi-task efficiently and be an independent thinker.
  • U.S. Patent & Trademark Office registration.
  • Licensed to practice law in Minnesota.

Our attorney compensation structure has two components: (1) a base salary and (2) a discretionary merit bonus based on performance. The salary range for this role is $200,000 โ€“ $250,000. The salary range for this position is based on a variety of factors, including experience, skills, qualifications, and location. The range is provided as an initial approximation at the time of posting and may vary based on the individualโ€™s unique qualifications and experience.
