Seeking a bright, motivated work-study student to assist with a variety of research studies within the Genetic Epidemiology Program.
As a research assistant in the Genetic Epidemiology Program, you will contribute to groundbreaking research focused on understanding the genetic factors leading to complex human diseases like cancer and diabetes. You will gain hands-on research experience and work alongside leading scientists, statisticians, bioinformatics experts, database administrators, laboratory technicians, and healthcare professionals.

  • Basic understanding of database systems/operating systems.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
  • An interest in the life sciences, computer science, or genetic epidemiology is helpful, but not required

Responsibilities
  1. Collect, verify, and enter data into the division's secure database from a variety of sources including, laboratory results, participant questionnaires, literature sources, and medical records.
  2. Assist with overall project management
  3. Maintain up-to-date files and records of research data
  4. Assist faculty and research employees in preparing manuscripts and presentation materials by creating slides, charts, graphs and handouts
  5. Draw pedigrees
  6. Perform general office support as needed including filing, sorting, mailing and faxing
  7. May support Database Administrator by assisting with computer programming and/or database maintenance
  8. May be required to run queries and reports using Excel and/or the division's database
  9. May assist in the wet lab

Minimum Qualifications
Preferences
  • Working towards a Bachelor's degree in a Social or Behavioral Science, Liberal Arts, or a field related to the area of research, or equivalency
  • One year of experience in research and analytical techniques; demonstrated statistical and quantitative analysis experience; and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills
