JOB OVERVIEW

The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for the reliability, security of data, performance, health of backup systems, and scalability of Careficient's SQL server environments and data lake architecture. This person will work with a Director of IT and Senior Software Engineers to tune performance, perform system monitoring, and design new systems.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Administer and maintain MS SQL Server across production and development environments.

Recommend, design, and build out of new database systems cluster and high availability groups.

Design and implement database solutions integrated with modern data lake storage and analytics platform.

Automate routine administrative tasks using scripting languages (PowerShell/Python)

Identify tools and resources to monitor SQL Server activity and provide key statistics and performance measures.

Analyzes and troubleshoots problems related to SQL Server Environment.

Maintains SQL Server plans for DR planning and business continuity including backup verification and restore testing.

Designs and documents database architecture and standards.

Perform capacity planning and forecasting to meet growing business and data demands.

Design, recommend and implement appropriate storage to ensure optimum performance and availability of all database servers.

Provide 24/7 support for critical situations.

Develops security measures and policies for SQL Server to prevent unauthorized access.

Protect personal health information (PHI) while fulfilling the above duties and responsibilities.


MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field or equivalent experience.

At least five years of experience in administration of Microsoft SQL Server at an enterprise level.


KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Ability to create and optimize stored procedures, functions, views, indexes, and query optimization plans.

Strong understanding of complex networking and multi-tier applications and databases.

Experience designing enterprise systems for high performance, availability, and reporting servers/architecture is required.

Proficiency in scripting languages, such as PowerShell or Python, is essential for automation. You should also be comfortable working in hybrid cloud environments; AWS database services are preferred.

A strong understanding of database monitoring, alerting, and capacity management tools

Experience with Windows Server failover clusters, Microsoft SQL Server Failover Clusters, MS SQL Server Always on Availability Groups, load balancing, and other high availability strategies is preferred.

Amazon's AWS relational database products experience preferred.

Data Lake and analytics experience preferred.

Taking initiative, being accountable, and meeting deadlines are all important components of demonstrating ownership of projects.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Able to approach work with attention to detail and focus on the product roadmap.

Able to build and maintain effective working relationships in a team environment, with a diverse group and across functional areas.

Demonstrates the ability for clear and effective verbal and written communications; demonstrates active listening skills.

Proficient in English.
