The City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) is seeking a CAD Technician II to perform advanced computer aided drafting (CAD) assignments to create drawings, maps and construction plans.

The current vacancy is within the Engineering Services Group in the Bureau of Environmental Services and supports delivery of Capital Improvement Projects, with specific focus on collection system (pipes), green street and surface water restoration projects, and treatment and pump systems.
What you'll get to do:
Under general direction, perform advanced specialized Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) assignments to create and modify maps, drawings and plans; coordinate large multiple and/or complex CAD projects; perform quality assurance/peer reviews of maps and drawings prepared by other staff; and perform other duties as assigned.
The duties for this specific position include:
  • Perform advanced specialized Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) assignments to create drawings of construction plans for collection system (pipe), green street and surface water restoration projects using base maps and other data.
  • Update maps with completed project ("as-built") information.
  • Plan and organize mapping, records, and CAD work; develop and implement standards and communicate project information and requirements to consultants.
  • Perform Quality Assurance/peer review of plans, design drawings and specifications prepared by bureau staff or outside consultants.
  • Research, interpret and verify data; reconcile conflicting and/or missing data by reviewing records, maps and making field site visits.
  • Review and analyze engineering surveys and records for proper composition of construction drawings.
  • Perform a variety of engineering technical duties to support engineering staff, including assisting engineers with research, field inspections, analysis and verification of legal descriptions and other engineering support duties or calculations as assigned.
  • Perform CAD technician-related duties as assigned.

To Qualify
Applicants should specifically address and demonstrate in their cover letter and résumé how their education, training, and/or experience meet each of the following minimum qualifications:
  1. Knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D software.
  2. Knowledge of Bluebeam Revu software.
  3. Ability to independently perform advanced CAD assignments with initiative and creativity.
  4. Ability to perform detailed work thoroughly, accurately, and efficiently.
  5. Ability to perform basic engineering computations.
  6. Ability to prepare professional quality maps, plans and records.

Additional Requirements
Training and Experience
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school, trade school or vocational school, or GED equivalent, supplemented by courses in engineering drafting and computer assisted drafting; and four (4) years of progressively responsible engineering drafting experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience with a public utility or working on public infrastructure projects is preferred.
