Job description

Direct Counsel is seeking an IP Litigation Associate with 2โ€“5 years of patent litigation experience to join a growing Intellectual Property Litigation practice in New York. This is an exceptional opportunity for a technically sophisticated litigator looking to work on high-stakes patent disputes, cutting-edge technologies, and complex intellectual property matters alongside a nationally recognized team.

The ideal candidate will have experience managing key phases of patent litigation and possess a technical background in engineering, software, computer science, or related technologies.

Responsibilities
  • Represent clients in complex patent and intellectual property litigation matters
  • Manage document collection, production, review, and discovery strategy
  • Conduct discovery meet-and-confer discussions with opposing counsel
  • Take and defend depositions
  • Collaborate with technical and damages experts in preparing expert reports and litigation strategy
  • Draft legal memoranda, pleadings, motions, and persuasive briefs
  • Support all phases of litigation from case inception through trial
  • Assist with PTAB proceedings, including inter partes reviews, where applicable
  • Work directly with clients on sophisticated technology and intellectual property disputes
Qualifications
  • 2โ€“5 years of patent litigation experience
  • Experience in a comparable law firm or IP boutique setting preferred
  • Technical background in:
    • Engineering
    • Software
    • Computer Networking
    • Related Technical Fields
  • Computer Science (CS) or Electrical Engineering (EE) degree preferred
  • Experience managing discovery, depositions, expert work, and motion practice
  • Experience with inter partes reviews (IPRs) and PTAB proceedings is a plus
  • Outstanding academic credentials
  • Excellent written, verbal, analytical, and communication skills
  • J.D. required
  • Active New York Bar admission required
  • USPTO admission preferred
