Description
Under minimal supervision, performs advanced Headend maintenance and troubleshooting to ensure minimal system outages, and uses knowledge of advanced IT networking skills to assist in the fault resolution of Passive Optical Network (PON), RF, IP and Digital Video networks. Install new technology as projects and department goals require. Analyzes, develops, designs, and maintains test documentation and tools to validate product and system performance. Able to discriminate and classify technical information and redirect efforts when necessary; able to follow instructions or take action and address opportunities with no supervision; able to take extra steps to prevent mistakes or create opportunities; able to initiate and evaluate system and network performance tests. Performs other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Evaluate, diagnose and repair all service problems originating within the headend using equipment such as a field strength meter, spectrum analyzer, OTDR, TV monitor, multimeter, QAM analyzer and other test equipment.
- Responsible for testing and maintaining lab systems such as Addressable Video controllers and Video Infrastructure Systems.
- Perform Advanced maintenance and resolves complex network problems to ensure minimal disruption of critical applications.
- Assist other field techs in diagnosing and repairing difficult field service problems when needed.
- Works closely with engineers to ensure IP video strategy is aligned with current/future IP transport networks.
- Assist in evaluation of new technologies focus on integrating / migrating IP switched video into the current service delivery network.
- Provides innovative ideas that address current challenges, as well as next generation goals for the efficient delivery of IP/MPEG video.
- Work with vendor partners to ensure engineering requirements are aligned with product roadmaps.
- Performs periodic preventive maintenance on computer systems through the use of sophisticated test equipment and software diagnostics.
- May supervise others in absence of Manager or if personnel are assigned by manager.
- Provide department with advanced/Tier III technical support to identify and solve complex issues that were escalated by other support levels.
- Updates records with completed work.
- Assists other divisions as required.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
- Associate degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Five years of related experience.
- Six months of related management or project management experience.
- Additional related work experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
