Job description

Ottawa University Kansas Campus (OUKS) invites candidates for a full-time, 9-month Visiting Computer Science Faculty Position. The successful candidate will develop and teach a broad range of courses and laboratories at the undergraduate level in the Computer Science program.ย  Additional responsibilities may include teaching management information systems and engineering courses. Responsible for providing engaging and effective instruction as well as academic mentoring for undergraduates; developing, assessing, and assuring excellent pedagogy and curriculum design, both within the discipline and in contributions to the Liberal Arts core program; promoting student achievement and academic integrity on behalf of the University; collaboration with support services provided through units such as the Adawe Academic Advising Center; Academic program development for currency, growth, recruitment, and retention.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESย 

Teaching and Advisingย 

  • Teaching Load: Teaching a full-time course load, defined as eight (8) courses per year, four courses per semester, or the equivalent of 24 credit hours per year (12 credit hours per semester). Load definitions for courses involving laboratory instruction, supervision of experiential learning, or other variations from the traditional lecture/seminar format are determined in consultation with the Dean of Arts and Sciences. Course load primarily consists of undergraduate computer science courses.ย  There are options to teach interdisciplinary and liberal arts core courses as well.ย 
  • Teaching Standards: Maintain a high standard in classroom teaching through engaging and effective pedagogy, exhibiting awareness and understanding of best practices in undergraduate education through application in the classroom, and remaining current with issues, curriculum, and classroom approaches in both the liberal arts and the candidateโ€™s academic discipline.ย ย 
  • Advising: Attend to student needs and concerns, and work with each studentโ€™s advising team members to identify and develop opportunities for each individual learner. Collaborate as needed in scheduling courses, addressing academic concerns, and supporting efforts in retention.ย 

Serviceย 

  • Participate in Campus and University-wide governance by responding to and engaging in dialogue related to academic issues across the university.ย 

Scholarshipย 

  • Maintain awareness of contemporary trends and evolving knowledge within oneโ€™s academic discipline and in the liberal arts through research, creative work, writing, conference attendance (either virtually or at a designated location), public presentations (in-person and virtually), and other involvement in the regional and national community of higher education professionalsย 

Assessmentย 

  • Maintain effective curricula through participation in university-wide assessment processes.ย 

Generalย

Qualifications
Education:ย  Masterโ€™s in computer science, earned Doctorate preferred (ABD considered).

Work experience: Three years of higher education experience, preferably in a residential liberal arts setting, and/or five years of industry experience preferred.
