Job description

SUMMARY

The Material Test Lab Technician I supports all functions of the Materials Test Lab. Tasks included in this position are manufacture of test coupons using basic machining practices, testing and data analysis, instrument operation, calibration and maintenance, and general maintenance of the laboratory. The Material Test Lab Technician I is also responsible for operating hydraulic platen presses, ovens, and composite curing equipment as necessary.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Assembles test coupons and prepares samples using appropriate machines, tools, and instruments
  • Reads precision measuring tools and instruments
  • Uses chemicals, adhesives, and solvents as required
  • Operates test instrumentation – load frame, thermal instrumentation, physical test methods
  • Records data and performs basic data analysis
  • Reads and understands blueprints and drawings
  • Reads and understands test method specifications
  • Assists with basic facility maintenance and clean-up
  • Observes safety and security procedures, reports potentially unsafe conditions

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Required Education: High School diploma;
  • Preferred Education: AA or BA/BS from engineering or automotive program
  • Required Experience: Experience with basic hand and power tools
  • Required: Computer proficiency and familiarity with common office applications (Word, Excel required)
  • Preferred: Experience in aerospace and defense advanced composites manufacturing environments
  • Demonstrates passion for the aerospace and defense industry, and strong desire to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
  • Demonstrates mechanical aptitude and a strong work ethic
  • Physical requirements of this position include moderate physical and repetitious work, standing for extended periods of time, the use of stairs and occasional heavy lifting
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
