Job description

Health Services, Inc. is a progressive healthcare organization specializing in innovative quality patient care, integrating physical, mental and social well-being. HSI has served the community for over 50 years by providing patients with a full range of quality comprehensive services. We have 11 clinics located throughout the River Region, 2 mobile clinics, and 4 school-based clinics in partnership with Montgomery Public Schools.

HSI is looking for a Health Information Management Clerk to join our team in Montgomery, AL. Our HIM Clerks are an integral part of our team, providing clinical and clerical support to our Providers and patients.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

JOB SUMMARY:

The Health Information Management Clerk will perform clerical duties necessary to maintain an effective nurses station, including preparation of the initial medical record and scheduling of patient appointments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Scans labs, x-ray reports, and correspondence in Patient Health information (PHI) in EHR database according to department policy.
  • Files, charts, lab reports, and correspondence in EHR
  • Generate all providersโ€™ appointment list for touches, scanning, and filing in EHR.
  • File information in the appropriate position within the individual charts in EHR
  • Guides patient in completing Patient Health consent forms correctly and documents this information in the EHR system along with patient identification.
  • Task message in EHR to the assigned provider's
  • Faxes and mails report to other agencies as needed.
  • Used computer automated system to identify missed appointments.
  • Gives patients information and directions when needed,
  • Complete any clinical request for PHI in a timely manner such as correspondence delivery or pickup.
  • File PHI with the EHR database according to department instructing accurately
  • Assist with any appointments over the telephone and communicate to immediate supervisor any changes to the provider schedule.
  • Utilize professional telephone etiquette skills when answering calls while tasking any medical questions to clinical staff using the telephone template in the EHR system.
  • Check in patients for appointments and walk in appointments.
  • Call patients for appointment reminders.
  • Schedule and reschedule appointment for provider.
  • Cover switchboard as needed.
  • Prep Patient Health Information for Medical Release.
  • Clear schedule when provider out of the office.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Health Information Management Supervisor.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires a High School Diploma.
  • Prefer six (6) months previous experience in a medical office.
  • Computer and other skills desirable.
