Responsibilities

 
  • Accurately assess and process specimens for testing in the general laboratory and reference labs. Adhere to specimen acceptability and rejection criteria.
  • Ensure all instruments, QC, and maintenance are performed in a timely manner.
  • Train newly hired lab personnel if needed.
  • Observe all established ‘universal safety precautions’, including proper handling of specimens as biohazards.
  • Monitors the work environment to identify and improve potentially unsafe practices.
  • Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory.
  • Understands the process of specimen collection, requirements, and storage.
  • Must be able to answer client/physician questions knowledgeably and courteously, including result retrieval in the Lab computer and reference the lab system.
  • Exercises good judgment and takes appropriate independent action as needed to perform his/her duties for the Lab.
  • Answers the phone in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment.
  • Motivates others and effectively directs work assignments.
  • Identify and correct problems.
  • Review manual entries for results for accuracy.
  • Performs phlebotomy as needed, including drawing blood and centrifugation of specimens.
  • May transport specimens from the laboratory to the nearby lab hospital if needed.
  • Follow HIPAA rules and regulations.
  • Promote the philosophy and mission of the Lab within the company and with clients.
  • Report any compliance issues or concerns to the Compliance Officer/HR
  • Order, pack, and ship samples to be sent out to reference labs.
  • Print and review the pending log at the end of each shift.
  • Any additional duties as assigned by Management.


Job Qualifications

  • Education/Training/Experience
  • Associate's or bachelor’s degree or a science-related degree. Must have at least 1 year of
  • general laboratory experience.
  • AMT or ASCP certification required.
  • Vitros Chemistry analyzer experience preferred
