POSITIONSUMMARY:

The Resident Director(RD) is responsible to the Director of Residence Life for providing servicesand programs in the area of staff and student development for those studentswho live in a specific building.  RD willwork within Living Learning Center of between 300 - 1100 students.  They will work under the direct supervisionof the Director of Residence Life and the Residence Life senior staff and maysupervise some combination of Graduate Assistants, Resident Assistants,Secretaries, Night Clerks, and Student Aides.  This is a live-in position requiring a flexible work schedule; someweeknights and weekend work required.

DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administers processes such as: accountability, hall openingand closing, duty systems, desk operations, damages, keys, visitation, andfacilities requests

Assists in the design and implementation of selection,training, and evaluation processes for paraprofessional staff working in aspecifically assigned building

Develops guidelines and coordinates program efforts forindividual student development and community development

Facilitates the development of policy in the area ofstudents' rights and responsibilities and resolves student behavioral problems

Conducts regular staff meetings and programs to providecontinuous in-service for resident assistants and student aides in thebuilding

Develops liaison relationships with various Universitydepartments

Counsels and advises individual residents and adjudicatesinfractions of University and Residence Life regulations

Promotes communication both within the hall and withinterested persons external to the hall

Participates in Office of Residence Life weekly staffmeetings and submits weekly reports to the Director of Residence Life

Assumes weekly and/or weekend duty on a regularly assignedbasis

Develops and implements staff meetings at least once per weekin specifically assigned buildings

Maintains office hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondaythrough Friday.  Assumes office hours onan as-needed basis at other times

Upholds rules and regulations of Duquesne University

Serves as a conduct officer for resident students

Is available in the residence hall for consultation withresident assistants, students, parents, and staff with other Universitypersonnel

Monitors and reports physical facilities, housekeeping needsand computer lab needs to the Assistant Vice President for Residence Life on aweekly basis

Prepares monthly crime statistics to report to the Departmentof Public Safety

Participates in Division of Student Life programs andactivities

Maintains residence in assigned building

Assumes responsibilities for any other task assigned by theDirector of Residence Life or the senior staff of Residence Life when deemednecessary

Completes otherduties as assigned
