Job Summary: Full-Time Lab Aide at our NY Pathology office. The support the laboratory with intake of specimens and administrative duties. The lab aid does not participate in technical duties. The Lab Aide will adhere to and support our culture of compliance and safety by following all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with attention to detail, accuracy and professionalism at all times.

Schedule: Full Time, 30+ hours. Availability Monday through Friday within operating hours of 10:00pm- 6:30am. Flexibility to help cover in a team environment is needed.

Essential Functions: Daily essential functions of the Lab Aide are listed below. Details on how each

function is to be performed is outlined in the SOP manual. The SOP manual is to be reviewed by all Lab Aides upon hire, when any updates occur and annually.

  • Receive laboratory specimen from courier

  • Review specimen for proper labeling and acceptability

  • Resolve specimen labeling discrepancies according to SOP

  • Sort specimen into cases to be processed in house and cases to be sent to other laboratories

  • based on insurance (per vs. non-par), provider preference (preferred lab written on requisition)

  • or case type (cultures or other specimen types we do not process)

  • Pre-accession and accession all specimen

  • Transport specimens and other materials between suites 1606 and 1104 in a HIPAA compliant

  • and safe manner; any spills or incidents that occur during transport will be managed per the

  • laboratory's SOP

  • Enter grossing information received from Grossing Technician into LIS

  • Prepare cases to be sent to reference laboratories and confirm daily pickup

  • Biohazard and hazardous waste disposal in accordance with policy and regulations

  • Maintain a safe, clean work environment

  • Observe blood-borne pathogens policy and proper personal protective equipment

  • Adhere to all company and laboratory specific SOPs and complete quality control (QC) logs as

  • required on a daily, weekly, monthly or annual basis (per individual SOPs)

Education Required: High School Diploma/GED minimum required; Associate Degree preferred

Training Required Upon Hire: Training and a post training assessment for all role-applicable SOPs and

Laboratory Compliance workflows must be completed after hire but before any laboratory work can be

completed independently. A competency assessment will occur at one month before independent work

is permitted. Role specific SOPs and Laboratory Compliance workflows are outlined in the Pathology

Training Program Smartsheet.

Experience Required: Must be computer savvy and familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

with strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills with six months experience in a

similar role.

Certification if Required: None required

Continuing Education Required: New Hire and Annual Training, including all required training sessions

for all new and updated SOPs relevant to job duties and updates to software systems as applicable.

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional lab environment and may potentially be exposed

to chemical, hazardous and biological samples. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such

as computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, employee is regularly required to talk; hear;

stand; walk; use hands to finger; handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position also

requires long duration of sitting and working on a computer. May require lifting up to 25 pounds.

Travel: Employee may be expected to travel up to 25% or less of their time from their home office

Hourly Pay Range: $19.22 - $24.03
