GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
Kirkwood Community College seeks a skilled and student-focused individual to join the Industrial Maintenance Technology (IMT) program. The instructor is responsible for fostering student learning through effective delivery of coursework in industrial maintenance and automation.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong knowledge base in electrical and mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting including three phase systems, applied electrical math, motors, motor controls, transformers, and mechanical drive systems. Background in NEC, residential and commercial wiring, hydraulics and pneumatics, PLC programming, smart technology integration, and industrial network communication is preferred.
A course load of 15 credit hours per semester is required. Teaching schedule will be assigned by the dean and may involve teaching at various Kirkwood locations in a variety of delivery formats including online, virtual, and face to face. Instructors may be asked to teach evenings and weekends.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, the instructor will be expected to contribute professional expertise through non-teaching activities to the department, program, and college. The instructor will be responsible for meeting the goals and objectives of an individual Professional Preparation Plan as outlined by the College's Quality Faculty Plan.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver instruction in industrial maintenance topics including electrical systems, mechanical systems, automation, and troubleshooting
- Develop, review, and update course curriculum, syllabi, and instructional materials to ensure alignment with current industry standards and program outcomes
- Assess student learning through competency-based evaluations, practical demonstrations, written assessments, and timely feedback that supports student progress
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and academic progress in accordance with college policies
- Advise and support students in academic planning, career pathways, and skill development related to industrial maintenance careers
- Establish and maintain a safe lab environment by enforcing safety standards and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and college policies
- Share responsibility for lab and equipment maintenance, including monitoring condition and communicating needs to department leadership
- Participate in program and department meetings, college committees, and institutional initiatives as required
- Collaborate with industry partners and advisory board members to ensure curriculum relevance and support student employment outcomes
- Participate in professional development activities to maintain current knowledge of industrial maintenance technologies and practices
- Support departmental initiatives related to enrollment, retention, and student success

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3 years full-time (6,000 hours) experience in industrial maintenance and automation OR
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, or related degree OR
- Associate's degree in Industrial Maintenance or related degree AND 1.5 years of full-time (3,000 hours) experience in the industrial maintenance or automation industry
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
- Experience troubleshooting industrial production facilities
- Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs
- Experience teaching at a community college
- Experience teaching students where English is not their first language
