Job Description
Founded in 2008, OPTiMO is an experienced consulting firm specializing in world-class, enterprise-level application development, system integration, and digital design. We support a client base spanning the public and private sector, and we strive for excellence both in our design work and in the service to our clients.
We are looking for an experienced, motivated, and articulate Multimedia Designer to help evolve our partners' current products and to conceive and iterate on upcoming products. This position will involve working closely with other designers, developers, and staff, and will have a direct impact on our company's growth.
Requirements:
  • Work full-time, on-site at a secure facility in the Washington DC Metro area.
  • Currently hold an active TS SCI security clearance.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design, Multimedia Design, Art Graphic Design, Visual Communication or related field.
    • Note: Ten (10) years' experience may be substituted in lieu of the degree requirement.
  • Minimum of five (5) years recent experience in graphic design and multimedia environment.
  • At least one (1) year of experience handling US classified documents.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat),and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to review and proofread the presentations and designs thoroughly to ensure accuracy, consistency, and high-quality design. Pay attention to details such as alignment, spacing, grammar, and spelling errors.
  • Thorough understanding of production and rendering methods. Some of the technologies and methods of production are drawing, offset printing, photography, and time-based and interactive media (film, video, computer multimedia. Multimedia refers to content that uses a combination of different content forms. Multimedia includes a combination of text, audio, still images, animation, video, or interactivity content forms.
  • Ability to solve visual communication problems by identifying the communications issue, gather and analyze information related to the issue, and generate potential approaches aimed at solving the problem.
  • Ability to operate a variety of computer platforms and operating systems including Mac OS and Windows; operate peripheral equipment including printers, CD and DVD burners and audio recording equipment
  • Ability to perform artistic and technical work to develop professional high-quality products.
  • Ability to creatively translate abstract concepts into effective visual form in a variety of media, adapt graphics to fit needs of clients and target audience, and utilize state of the art production tools to design, edit, and produce video, audio, and graphic materials.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form and explain technical concepts in non-technical terms to staff and customers.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and schedule work assignments and projects.
  • Ability to work individually on multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work.
  • Experience working for the federal government or be capable of sophisticated design and branding representative of a federal government agency.
  • Accessibility & 508 Compliance Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate understanding of Section 508 accessibility standards for electronic documents, PDFs, and multimedia.
  • Design and deliver visual that adhere to accessibility guidelines, including color contrast, readable fonts, and appropriate use of text alternatives.
  • Use Adobe Acrobat Pro, PAC 2024, Colour Contrast Analyzer (TPGi), WAVE and Microsoft Office accessibility features to remediate and test documents for accessibility.
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of DHS Trusted Tester Methodology for multimedia and document content.
Preferred:
  • Understanding of user-centered design based on HCI, visual, or other design foundations and principles.
  • Knowledge of Section 508 compliance standards
  • Familiarity with accessibility testing tools and methods
  • Ability to independently validate deliverables for accessibility
  • DHS Trusted Tester Certification
  • Experience working as part of an Agile/SCRUM development team creating high usage digital products.
  • Familiarity or experience with US Web Design System, 18F Design Methods, IOS and Android design standards is desired for this role. Expertise in these areas would be a major plus.
  • Certification or training in Section 508 accessibility standards and testing (eg. DHS Trusted Tester Certification) A portfolio showcasing user-centered design solutions with strong visuals and interactions for mobile apps and responsive websites.
  • Expert knowledge of layout design, video editing, user interface design, usability principles, video animation, color theory, and print design.
  • Design visually appealing decks in Microsoft PowerPoint: Utilize your design expertise to create visually engaging slides that align with our brand guidelines and enhance the overall storytelling of the marketing message.
