What to Expect
You will be working on Backrooms: Escape Together, a fully procedural multiplayer exploration/survival horror game built in UE5. Backrooms: Escape Together currently sits in the top 100 of Steam's best-selling games and is rapidly climbing; We need passionate developers who share our mission of delivering unforgettable multiplayer experiences.
Your role will be to program procedurally generated levels using our existing tooling in C++, along with programming engaging gameplay systems to fit in the levels. With a large community of users, you'll have opportunities to improve your work based on the feedback and data you've collected to help create measurable success. Each content release will further B.E.T. as an incomparable grand journey with friends.

We are a five-person studio behind Backrooms: Escape Together, a co-op survival horror game frequently in the top 100 on Steam and loved by millions.
What You'll Do
  • Develop procedurally generated levels and gameplay systems in C++
  • Own and maintain polished features that are shipped to a player base of millions
  • Work closely with other developers on projects ranging from small bug fixes to large features
  • Participate in code reviews and design discussions - Identify performance bottlenecks or structural issues and optimize code as needed
  • Assist in tracking down and patching bugs reported by users or identified through internal testing

What You'll Bring
  • 3+ years of industry experience as a game developer or relevant software developer
  • Strong C++ and Unreal Engine skills
  • Strong understanding of multiplayer networking in Unreal Engine and GAS
  • Strong Product Sense
  • Highly Adaptable and experience working in smaller teams
  • Perforce, SVN, Git LFS, or similar version control experience
  • Experience in maintaining large codebases/systems while ensuring it's scalable, robust, and efficient
  • Excellent communication skills and very detail oriented
  • Comfortability in wearing "many hats" as a developer and working through a vast assortment of challenges
  • Ability to work independently and a desire to problem solve
  • Willingness to learn, ask questions, and collaborate with a team
  • Degree in Computer Science, Game Design, Gameplay Programming or proof of exceptional skills in related fields, with practical software engineering experience

Nice to Haves
  • Previous experience in working in a startup
  • Hands-on experience with Unreal Engine 5 and its new features
  • Experience in creating procedurally generated levels
  • Low-level knowledge of Unreal Engine networking
  • A portfolio that demonstrates a keen eye for detail and the ability to create maintainable, high-quality code

Expected Compensation
$120,000 - $180,000 (including cash bonuses) + stock awards
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
