Job description

Overview
We are currently in searching for an entry level Mechanical Engineer to join our Air Purification team here at our Sun Prairie Innovation Center! In this role you will have the opportunity to work cross-functionally to bring design ideas to production and provide interdisciplinary support throughout the entire NPD process.
This position will be located onsite in Sun Prairie, WI.
Responsibilities
  • Develop product designs to meet performance requirements as specified by product management.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers to ensure that designs meet cost, safety and manufacturing targets.
  • Create, review, and release product documentation for components and assemblies to ensure accuracy and compliance with accepted Engineering drawing standards.
  • Develop test protocol as needed and perform testing on products to ensure compliance with engineering specifications.
  • Evaluate any current warranty or product performance concerns to be resolved during the development of new products.
  • Build and test prototypes to ensure fit, form and function which will include using lab tools and equipment as needed to build the required parts.
  • Acts as a technical resource to other departments including Manufacturing, Purchasing, Sales and Marketing to address and resolve inquiries and problems during new product development.
  • Perform first article inspections to ensure new parts meet drawing requirements and quality standards.
  • Participate in cross-functional project teams to execute the Aprilaire New Product Development process.
  • Provide technical assistance to ensure regulatory agency approvals, such as U.L., C.S.A., etc. are maintained.
  • Prioritize and manage time to work on multiple projects.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar professional degree.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or production environment preferred.
  • SolidWorks experience/training to create models and drawings.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing and prototyping processes.
  • Ability to work in the test lab building prototypes and executing engineering testing.
  • Understanding of the principles of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Working knowledge or training in mechanics, thermodynamics and fluid dynamics.
  • Strong analytical and technical engineering skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to develop and communicate sound lines of reasoning.
  • Ability to professionally communicate with Engineering Managers and working peers.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to troubleshoot electro-mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Solid problem-solving skills and methodology.
  • Time management skills and ability to work multiple projects.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office programs as well as email and scheduling programs.
  • Creative and innovative mindset, highly detail oriented.
  • Must have demonstrated experience in taking the initiative and strong sense of urgency.
