Basic Qualifications: 

  • Candidate must be pursuing a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum completion of Sophomore level coursework from an accredited institution (by May 2026).
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree in the following disciplines: Mechanical, Electrical, Robotic, Industrial/Manufacturing or Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science/Software Engineering. 
  • Experience with robotics or other programming of robots
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong collaboration skills
  • Ability to work in a self-directed or team environment
  • Highly detailed and organized
  • Relevant internship/work experience a plus

The Automation Engineer Intern will be located in our Plant 3, Whitehall Casting Operation in Whitehall, MI.  

We are seeking a highly motivated and energetic student to join our Plant 3 team. This position will assist our Automation teams in identifying new manufacturing technology and sustaining current technology in use at the operation.  

The 2026 Summer Internship Program consists of 10-14 weeks of structured hands-on training involving plant tours, lunch & learn seminars, fun networking events to connect with fellow interns, and projects selected to add direct value to the business.  At the conclusion of the program, each intern will present their projects to plant managers, supervisors, and mentors. An internship at Howmet Aerospace will provide an invaluable experience that you can utilize in any role, and it's Howmet's goal to evaluate our interns for potential entry-level openings.
