Description

The Engineering Intern supports the engineering team with day-to-day technical and operational activities while gaining hands-on experience in a manufacturing and production environment. This role assists with engineering projects, data collection and analysis, process improvement initiatives, documentation updates, and cross-functional collaboration with operations, quality, and production teams.

The intern will have the opportunity to learn engineering principles, problem-solving techniques, and industry best practices while contributing to continuous improvement efforts and supporting business objectives. This position is intended to provide practical exposure to engineering processes, project coordination, and technical problem solving in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

Essential Job Functions:

  • Create final assembly, sub-assembly and component drawings of new product development projects utilizing 3D CAD software.
  • Support delivering timely responses to all customer inquiries, while working closely with engineering to meet customer needs.
  • ย Prepare bills of materials and specifications when drawings are complete.
  • ย Ensure the initiation, accuracy, and maintenance of Engineering Change Orders (ECO's).
  • ย Interacts closely with both Manufacturing Personnel and Engineers to complete projects.
  • ย Collaborates in a team environment, supports development of assigned products (e.g., new mechanical or electromechanical components, subsystems, and systems) by applying as directed basic engineering principles.
  • Commitment to a safety culture where safety is the first consideration before starting any task.
  • Meets time and quality standards.
  • Seeks out additional duties when it is needed.
  • Brings up potential problems with suggested solutions.
  • Promotes a positive environment through what is said and by setting an example.
  • Basic PDF/Adobe skills
  • Graduate of related two-year vocational school program and three years related work experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.ย 
  • Ability to work in-office 40 hours per week during Summer 2024
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelors degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Industrial at an accredited 4-year college or university in the United States. Preference will be given to junior status or above
  • Ability to work effectively on a variety of assignments
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with others and be a participative team
  • Experience using engineering CAD programs
  • Able to interpret engineering drawings and have knowledge of fundamental engineering principles
  • Strong mechanical aptitudeย 
  • Eligible to work in the United States without company sponsorship.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The performance of this position will require exposure to the manufacturing areas where all areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toe shoes, and other mandatory safety equipment.
  • For the most part, ambient temperatures are controlled by climate due to production requirements
  • This role regularly operates in a manufacturing environment with exposure to airborne powders and particulates. The ability to work in such conditions, with or without reasonable accommodation, is an essential function of the position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8-10 hours per shift) on a manufacturing floorย 
  • Frequent use of hands for handling, sanding, polishing, grinding, and finishing partsย 
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull materials weighing up to 25-50 pounds, with or without assistanceย 
  • Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouchingย 
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination required to operate finishing tools and equipmentย 
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothingย 
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include exposure to dust, fumes, noise, chemicals, and varying temperaturesย 
  • Ability to distinguish colors, finishes, and surface defects as needed for quality inspectionย 
  • Sufficient vision (with or without correction) to inspect detailed parts and surfacesย 
  • Ability to safely operate finishing equipment such as grinders, sanders, bead blasters, or similar tools
