What is a computer associate?

Computer Associates are IT professionals who provide technical support, maintenance, and troubleshooting for computer systems and networks within an organization. Their responsibilities often include installing hardware and software, assisting users with technical issues, and ensuring the smooth functioning of IT infrastructure. They may also help with system upgrades, security protocols, and documentation of IT procedures. Computer Associates often work as part of an IT team and may specialize in certain systems or applications depending on the organization’s needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a computer associate, and why are they important?

To excel as a Computer Associate, you need a solid understanding of computer systems, troubleshooting, and technical support, often backed by a degree in information technology or a related field. Familiarity with operating systems (like Windows and Linux), help desk ticketing systems, and basic networking tools is essential. Strong problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills help you effectively assist users and collaborate with team members. These skills ensure efficient technical support and smooth operation of IT systems within the organization.

What are some typical challenges a computer associate might face when supporting multiple departments within an organization?

Balancing competing priorities and troubleshooting a wide range of hardware and software issues can be demanding, especially when multiple service requests are urgent. Effective time management, clear communication, and a proactive approach to learning new systems are key to overcoming these challenges and providing reliable support throughout the organization.

CAD Detailing Manager - Exhibits & Experiential Environments

Limited relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.

Bring bold ideas to life through precision, innovation, and craftsmanship.

Great experiences start with great execution. As our CAD Detailing Manager - Exhibits & Experiential Environments, you'll lead the team responsible for transforming creative concepts into detailed, build-ready solutions that bring brands, events, and environments to life.

Working at the intersection of design, engineering, fabrication, and production, you'll guide the development of CAD/CAM documentation that supports some of the industry's most exciting trade shows, brand activations, corporate environments, and permanent installations.

This is an opportunity for a hands-on leader who loves solving complex design challenges, developing talented teams, and creating the processes that turn ambitious ideas into exceptional physical experiences.

What You'll Do

Lead and Grow a High-Performing Detailing Team

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of CAD Detailers across multiple locations and freelance resources.
  • Build a culture centered on collaboration, accountability, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement.
  • Recruit, coach, and develop talent while creating opportunities for career growth.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to help the team deliver high-quality work consistently.

Transform Creative Concepts into Buildable Solutions

  • Partner with 3D Designers, Project Managers, Sales, and Production teams to bring creative visions from concept through fabrication.
  • Translate design intent into accurate, production-ready CAD/CAM documentation.
  • Ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, installation-ready, and aligned with project goals.
  • Serve as a technical resource to help teams navigate complex design and fabrication challenges.

Drive Process, Quality, and Operational Excellence

  • Oversee CAD detailing standards and workflows supporting custom exhibits, experiential environments, and fabrication projects.
  • Establish best practices that improve accuracy, efficiency, scalability, and consistency.
  • Identify opportunities to improve tools, systems, and processes across teams and locations.
  • Help create a seamless transition from design development through production and installation.

Own Project Execution and Delivery Success

  • Support project planning through workload forecasting, resource allocation, scheduling, and prioritization.
  • Participate in project kickoffs, design reviews, and production meetings to ensure alignment.
  • Monitor project progress and proactively address technical, timeline, or resource challenges.
  • Provide hands-on support when needed to keep projects moving forward.

Champion Innovation

  • Stay current on emerging materials, fabrication techniques, and production technologies.
  • Encourage creative problem-solving and new approaches to improve how we design and build.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives that enhance team performance and project outcomes.

What Makes You Successful

You are a collaborative technical leader who understands how ideas become reality. You bring both the creativity to problem-solve and the technical expertise to ensure designs can successfully move into fabrication.

You'll bring:

  • Significant experience in CAD detailing, exhibit design, custom fabrication, experiential marketing, trade shows, or related environments.
  • Proven experience leading and developing technical teams.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and a strong understanding of CAD/CAM workflows.
  • Knowledge of the complete build lifecycle, including concept development, detailing, fabrication, and installation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across creative, production, and operational teams.
  • Experience with project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource management.
  • A passion for creating efficient processes and delivering exceptional quality.

Education:
Trade school certification, Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Technology, Design, or related field preferred-or equivalent professional experience.

If you're energized by turning complex ideas into buildable realities, developing high-performing teams, and creating experiences that leave a lasting impression, we'd love to meet you.

Last but not least, we believe in diversity, equity and inclusion.
