POSITION SUMMARY

The Assembly Operator/Material Handler will move materials, pallets, dies, tubs, baskets, and racks to various areas or machine locations with the department/facility. The material handler must also aid the in the crating of finished export pallets and other assembly operation functions. Assembly produces, inspects, and assembles precision bearing parts to meet the customer's expectations and Amsted Rail procedures and standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

To accomplish this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without accommodation.

  • Adhere to plant-wide safety, ergonomics and environmental requirements defined by Amsted Rail; outlined by the Amsted Rail Health & Safety program
  • Move materials in order to stage and support production work areas and shipping and receiving departments
  • Conduct daily inspection of, and safely operate, a ride-on forklift, following guidelines of Amsted Rail
  • Follow proper procedures and inspections for safe loading of trailers
  • Scan parts and materials for inventory and use computer and paper checklists to document, track, and communicate material movement
  • Assist in wrapping, crating, labeling of product for shipments
  • Verify conformance to specifications, using reports or gauges, in accordance with the departmental quality plan
  • Check condition of work for defects
  • Record production run information in the company computer system
  • Understand operational sequences and dimensions of finished work pieces
  • Keep work area clean and organized following standard work instructions
  • Notify supervisors, engineering, or maintenance personnel regarding production problems and assist in identifying and correcting problems
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leads, supervisors, and managers

To be considered a candidate must be able to meet the following qualifications:

  • Successfully pass a pre-employment drug & background screening
  • Lift, push & pull 10 to 50 lbs.
  • Wear department required, employer provided, personal protection equipment (PPE)
  • Be able to regularly stand and move throughout the department and shift
  • Prior industrial experience a plus
