Job description

Report Times: 8:00am-4:30pm
Daily Hours: 8.5 (7.5 Paid)
Work Year: 12 month
Supervisor: Director of Information Technology
Civil Service Title: Senior Computer Application Specialist (Compeditive)
Minimum Requirements: 
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:












(A) Graduation with a Bachelor's degree in a Computer Science or an Information Technology related field; OR,

(B) Graduation with an Associate's degree as defined in (A) above, plus two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in developing or maintaining database applications on micro-computers; OR,

(C) Four (4) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as described in (B) above; OR,

(D) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), and (C) above.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: If you are appointed, you will be required to possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State or otherwise demonstrate your capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.
Desired Qualifications: 
Previous experience working within a school district or educational service agency is highly preferred to understand specific student data privacy and rostering needs;
Experience in a "Senior" or "Lead" capacity, including mentoring junior staff and managing large-scale technology projects;
Google Certified Professional Collaboration Engineer or Google Certified Educator (Level 1 & 2);
ClassLink Administrator Certification (for LaunchPad and Roster Server management);
Deep understanding of OneRoster standards and automated rostering between Student Information Systems (like Infinite Campus) and third-party apps;
Proficiency in managing enterprise-level content filters (e.g., Lightspeed) to maintain CIPA compliance;
Knowledge of SAML/OIDC for Single Sign-On (SSO) and experience with data retention/eDiscovery tools like Google Vault.
Position Summary/Responsibilities: 
Google Workspace & Admin Console Management:
Workspace Administration: Serves as a primary administrator for the district's Google Admin Console, managing all aspects of the Google Workspace for Education environment;
User & OU Management: Organizes and manages Organizational Units (OUs), user accounts, and group structures to ensure appropriate access levels, settings, and policy enforcement for both staff and students;
Chrome Device Management: Oversees ChromeOS device management, configuring device policies, network settings, Wi-Fi profiles, and OS update schedules for the district's fleet of Chromebooks;
App & Extension Control: Evaluates, manages, and deploys Chrome extensions and Google Workspace Marketplace apps, configuring allow lists and blocklists to maintain a secure digital environment;
Security & Core Services: Configures core service settings (e.g., Gmail routing, Google Drive sharing permissions) and manages data security policies, including utilizing Google Vault for data retention, eDiscovery, and compliance auditing.
















Web Filtering & Content Management:
Filtering Administration: Manages and oversees the district's web content filtering system, Lightspeed, to maintain safe and appropriate web access for all users'
False Positive Resolution and Access Requests: Investigates and approves false positives when the filtering system inadvertently blocks legitimate educational websites reviews, and processes staff requests to block or approve specific sites based on pre-conceived district criteria and educational guidelines;
Issue Troubleshooting: Conducts necessary research to troubleshoot and solve complex filtering issues, ensuring seamless access to required digital resources without compromising network security.


Identity & Access Management (IAM): Manages the core security of user accounts.

Software lifecycle: Oversees technical onboarding and vendor integration to license compliance and performance monitoring. It ensures all district applications are secure, up-to-date, and aligned with educational needs through active stakeholder liaison.

Rostering Management: Manages the automated process of populating digital learning tools with student, teacher, and class information.
