Job description

Who we are About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies - from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups - use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

Stripes on the Government Relations & Public Affairs team operate in a fast-paced internal and external environment that requires collaborating with teams across our organization and with outside stakeholders. The culture is thoughtful, transparent, academically rigorous, and kind. In this role, you will have the opportunity to impact the trajectory of Stripe in the US and enhance financial innovation and inclusion.

If you are a team player who wants to represent millions of businesses around the world growing on Stripe, we look forward to hearing from you!

What you’ll do

In this role you will deal with a diverse set of issues that straddle financial services, technology, internet regulation, and economic policy. You will define, shape, and advocate for initiatives that increase the GDP of the Internet. You will maintain deep relationships with Members of Congress, committee staff, key federal regulators, and the Executive Branch — building and executing legislative and regulatory strategies on issues central to Stripe's mission, including payments modernization, financial regulation, artificial intelligence, and the future of agentic commerce.

This role must reside in the DC, Maryland, Virginia area. We are not accepting remote candidates.

Responsibilities
  • Work as part of our Government Relations & Public Affairs team across the globe to strategically develop, pursue, and execute policy objectives as part of Stripe's global policy priorities
  • Lead and execute federal legislative advocacy — managing Stripe's engagement with Congress on key legislative priorities including stablecoins, digital assets, open banking, AI governance, and payments regulation
  • Build and maintain relationships with Members of Congress, committee and personal staff, and serve as Stripe's frontline representative on federal legislation affecting the payments and technology industries
  • Engage federal regulatory agencies — including the Treasury Department, OCC, FDIC, Federal Reserve, CFPB, and others — to educate them about Stripe's business, advocate for sound policy outcomes, and navigate regulatory proceedings
  • Plan, develop, and execute policy initiatives and campaigns that advance Stripe's policy goals and those of our users
  • Help colleagues across Stripe understand federal legislative and regulatory developments, identify policy opportunities to grow our business, and translate complex policy dynamics into actionable guidance
  • Represent Stripe on trade groups, coalitions, and industry bodies engaged on federal policy issues
Who you are

We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements
  • At least 8+ years of experience in a policymaking, government, or senior advocacy role — ideally a mix of time on Capitol Hill, in a federal regulatory agency, or in a world-class organization as an in-house government relations expert or other business-related role
  • A background working for a Member of Congress, a committee or leadership office, or in a senior policy role at the US Treasury, OCC, FDIC, White House, or comparable federal institution — with a track record of navigating bipartisan legislative environments
  • Deep expertise in financial services regulation and payments policy, with a strong understanding of the legislative and regulatory landscape across banking, money transmission, and digital assets
  • Familiarity with, and ideally direct experience on, emerging technology policy — including artificial intelligence, agentic commerce, and the regulatory questions that arise at the intersection of AI and financial services
  • Strong relationships with policymakers and staff on both sides of the aisle and a reputation for credibility, reliability, and good judgment
  • A proven track record of managing complex, technical policy issues — capable of managing major initiatives independently, driving coalitions, or project managing a cross-functional team
  • Excellent judgment — capable of making smart decisions in the face of ambiguity and imperfect information and learning from them
  • A terrific communicator and writer, adept at working with lawyers, regulators, engineers, business teams, and colleagues to make complex concepts clear and understandable
  • Passion for Stripe's mission of helping businesses grow and thrive
  • A collaborative, curious team-first mindset with experience thriving in ambiguous, high-growth or startup environments across global offices.
  • Empathy, humility, and a respect for those who have views that are different from yours
  • A willingness to work with a diverse group of policy, regulatory, and product professionals who care deeply about Stripe's policy issues, our users, and each other
  • Willingness to travel 25% for meetings and events.
