 JOB TITLE: Child & Youth Services Preschool Teacher

DEPARTTMENT: Child & Youth Services

SUPERVISOR'S TITLE: Child & Youth Services Assistant Director or Child & Youth Services Preschool/Child Care Manager

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: As applicable; may act as site director

JOB STATUS: Full Time; Non-Exempt

SCHEDULE: Mon-Fri (8am-3pm)


Summary: Develop and implement a developmentally appropriate preschool program at Morgan Elementary School in Palmyra that supports young children's physical, emotional, intellectual, and social development while maintaining a safe, nurturing, and stimulating classroom environment. Responsible for lesson planning, family communication, student assessment, documentation, special events, and compliance with program, school, and state requirements.


Key Responsibilities:

        Develop and implement a preschool program with culturally diverse, age-appropriate activities that introduce math and literacy concepts and support classroom discipline.

        Greet children upon arrival and departure and maintain ongoing communication with families about progress, activities, and expectations.

        Ensure a safe, orderly, nurturing, and sanitary classroom environment, including supervising children at all times and reporting suspected abuse or safety concerns.

        Prepare, organize, and maintain classroom materials, lesson plans, bulletin boards, schedules, and supply inventories.

        Write and carry out lesson plans using The Creative Curriculum and include activities that support cognitive, language, motor, social, and self-help development.

        Administer student assessments in the fall, winter, and spring; maintain records and discuss results with parents/guardians.

        Assist with enrollment, demographic information, attendance, medicine logs, incident reports, and other program documentation.

        Plan and participate in conferences, special events, parent newsletters, board reports, and graduation ceremonies.

        Attend staff meetings, complete required trainings, and maintain confidentiality at all times.

        Maintain professional relationships with school personnel, administrators, families, and agency staff.


Qualifications & Skills:

        Strong written and oral communication skills.

        Strong time management, stress management, analytical, problem-solving, and supervisory skills.

        Ability to adapt teaching to individual and classroom needs.

        Ability to clearly communicate in ways students understand.


Physical & Work Requirements:

        Ability to lift and carry 40 pounds or more.

        Adequate vision and hearing to supervise children in the classroom, on the playground, and on field trips.

        Ability to work at the child's eye level, including sitting on the floor, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, and turning.

        Must be able to actively supervise children indoors and outdoors.


Certifications & Training Requirements:

        Maintain certification in CPR, First Aid, and Preventing Disease Transmission.

        Complete 15 hours of in-service training annually.

        Understand and teach Indiana state standards.

        Maintain a valid driver's license and proof of vehicle liability insurance.

        Complete all state-required trainings.

 Education & Experience Requirements:
Minimum of an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education or state-mandated licensing/certification such as the Child Development Associate credential (CDA).
One year of child care experience required.
