Role Overview

The Life Products organization at New York Life is responsible for delivering industry-leading life insurance solutions that meet the evolving needs of our policyowners and agents. As competition and innovation accelerate, best-in-class competitive intelligence is critical to maintaining our leadership position.
We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Head of Life Insurance Competitive Intelligence to build and lead a best-in-class intelligence function. This role will serve as the central hub for insights on competitors, industry trends, and market developments - delivering actionable intelligence to inform product strategy and enterprise decision-making.
This individual will partner closely with Product Development, Corporate Strategy, Distribution, and other key stakeholders, while also managing and developing a competitive intelligence analyst. The ideal candidate brings deep industry expertise, strong external perspective, and a well-established network across carriers and industry organizations.

What You'll Do:

  • Define and lead the life insurance competitive intelligence strategy, aligned to business priorities and product roadmap.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on competitor strategies, industry trends, and emerging risks/opportunities.
  • Translate external insights into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Maintain a forward-looking view of competitors' products, pricing, underwriting, and distribution strategies.
  • Monitor key industry developments including product innovation, regulation, reinsurance, and digital capabilities.
  • Deliver concise, decision-oriented insights tailored to stakeholders.
  • Act as the primary intelligence partner to Life Insurance Product Development.
  • Support Corporate Strategy, Underwriting, Distribution, and Finance with targeted insights.
  • Contribute to initiatives such as product development, pricing strategy, and strategic planning.
  • Own relationships with key industry organizations (e.g., LIMRA, LISSIG) and represent New York Life externally.
  • Build and leverage a strong network across peer companies and industry experts.
  • Oversee delivery of core intelligence outputs, including newsletters, peer mutual sales analysis, Comdex reporting, and benchmarking reports.
  • Ensure insights are clear, relevant, and actionable.
  • Oversee competitive intelligence tools, data sources, and subscriptions.
  • Build scalable processes for collecting, synthesizing, and distributing insights.
  • Leverage analytics and AI capabilities to enhance intelligence delivery, including dashboards, self-service tools, and AI-enabled querying (e.g., automated charts and insights).
  • Manage and develop a competitive intelligence analyst.
  • Establish clear priorities, workflows, and quality standards.
  • Build a scalable capability and foster a culture of external awareness and curiosity.

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of life insurance experience across competitive intelligence, product, or strategy roles.
  • Deep knowledge of products, pricing, underwriting, and distribution.
  • Strong understanding of the competitive landscape.
  • Established industry network.
  • Experience with LIMRA or similar organizations preferred.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • People leadership or mentorship experience.
  • Experience leveraging data, analytics, or AI tools to enhance insights preferred.
  • Ability to operate in a matrixed environment.

Pay Transparency

Salary Range:Β $160,000-$228,500Β 

Overtime eligible:Β ExemptΒ 

Discretionary bonus eligible:Β YesΒ 

Sales bonus eligible:Β NoΒ 

Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual's experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
