Job description

Do you have a caring heart and desire to bring comfort to others? We are seeking compassionate individuals to serve as Hospice Volunteers.

As a volunteer, you have many opportunities to support patients facing life-limiting illnesses. Your presence can make a world of difference---offering comfort, reducing loneliness, and creating moments of joy.

Volunteer activities may include:

  • Engaging in conversation and active listening
  • Companionship/socialization
  • Reading aloud, playing music, or sharing hobbies
  • Sitting quietly as a comforting presence
  • 11th hour/angel/sitting vigil
  • Music therapy
  • Art therapy
  • Emotional/spiritual support
  • Veteran-to-veteran visits, pinning services
  • Assist with grief support/bereavement
  • Offering respite to family caregivers (without caregiving yourself)
  • Helping patients/caregivers with light household tasks
  • Office/administrative tasks
  • Specialized licensed therapies such as pet therapy, massage, aromatherapy, and reiki

Time Commitment: Flexible scheduling---visits are typically 1-2 hours per week, based on your availability.

Training & Support: All volunteers receive comprehensive hospice training and ongoing support and education from our care team. No medical experience is required.

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Hospice experience (preferred, but not required)
  • Must pass a background check
  • Must have a negative TB test result after testing
  • Reliable, compassionate, and dependable
  • Must provide TWO references
  • Willing to commit to 6-12 months of service
  • Comfortable speaking with patients and families by phone and in person
  • Detail-oriented with a professional attitude
