Job description

Discover the opportunity to join Baker College, honored as one of the 2024, 2025 and 2026 Best and Brightest Workplaces in West Michigan, Metro Detroit, and Nationally!

Baker College is seeking a dedicated Student Success Coach (SSC) to serve as a primary point of contact for students, providing proactive, holistic support that promotes persistence, engagement, and timely degree completion.

At Baker College, student success is at the center of everything we do. The Student Success Coach (SSC) serves as the primary point of contact for an assigned caseload of students from orientation through graduation, building sustained relationships that support confidence, engagement, and timely degree completion. Combining strong academic advising with proactive coaching, the SSC provides guidance on degree requirements, course selection, academic standing, and program progression while conducting structured outreach at key milestones. Using predictive analytics and early-alert systems, the coach identifies potential barriers and delivers timely interventions, helping students strengthen academic habits, time management, and goal-setting skills. By coordinating support with faculty and campus partners and connecting students to resources across modalities, the Student Success Coach advances Baker College's Student First Philosophy and commitment to equity, persistence, and student completion.

Candidates for the Student Success Coach position at Baker College must have a minimum of three years of progressively responsible professional experience in student services, academic advising, success coaching, student engagement, or a related higher education role. A bachelor's degree in a related field is required, with a master's degree preferred, and bilingual candidates are highly encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong understanding of holistic and proactive student support models aligned with NACADA core competencies, along with the ability to interpret and apply academic policies, program requirements, and institutional procedures. The role requires experience using student success technologies, case management systems, and data-informed outreach strategies to identify risk factors and support timely intervention. Candidates should possess strong communication and organizational skills, the ability to coach students individually and in group settings on complex academic and personal success matters, and the cultural competence to effectively support diverse student populations. Additionally, the position requires the ability to build trust-based relationships with students, collaborate with faculty and campus partners, manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment, exercise sound judgment, and maintain strict adherence to confidentiality and ethical standards.

At Baker College, we're on a mission to transform education with a Student-First philosophy. Our President's vision is dedicated to creating an environment where students, faculty, and staff flourish. Join us in cultivating a culture of belonging and engagement, where every individual is valued and appreciated.

The successful candidate will believe in and support the student-first philosophy while contributing to the overall success of Baker College, and acting as a positive role model and brand ambassador on and off campus.
