Job description

Job Title             : Backup Engineer – Commvault & NetBackup

Location            : Spring, TX
 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer and maintain enterprise backup solutions using Commvault and NetBackup.
  • Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot backup jobs, schedules, and policies.
  • Perform regular backup validation, restore testing, and disaster recovery drills.
  • Collaborate with application, database, and infrastructure teams to ensure backup coverage and SLAs.
  • Manage backup storage capacity, retention policies, and tape library operations.
  • Implement and maintain backup reporting and alerting mechanisms.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide L2/L3 support for backup-related incidents and service requests.
  • Document backup architecture, procedures, and recovery plans.
 

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong experience with Commvault Complete Backup & Recovery and Veritas NetBackup.
  • Knowledge of backup strategies for VMware, Hyper-V, Microsoft SQL, Oracle, and file systems.
  • Familiarity with cloud backup integrations (Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • Experience with deduplication, encryption, and data retention policies.
  • Proficiency in scripting (PowerShell, Bash, or Python) for automation.
  • Understanding of ITIL processes and incident/change management tools (e.g., ServiceNow).
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Commvault Certified Professional, Veritas Certified Specialist) are a plus.
 

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with backup hardware (tape libraries, disk arrays, cloud gateways).
  • Exposure to enterprise storage systems and SAN/NAS environments.
