COMMUNITY PROGRAMS MANAGER
PITTSBURGH BALLET THEATRE | PITTSBURGH, PA
POSITION: Community Programs Manager
REPORTS TO: Manager of Education and Community Engagement
DEPARTMENT: Administrative, Education and Community Engagement
CATEGORY: Full-time, FLSA Exempt
SALARY: Starting at $55,000
POSITION SUMMARY
The Community Programs Manager is responsible for managing and forging new relationships with community education and accessibility partners, refining curriculum and facilitating engagement programs. This position is essential in the expansion of Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s Education and Community Engagement Department and serves as a representative of Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre at both internal and external events. This position manages, communicates, and collaborates effectively with part time departmental teaching artists and accompanists. Reports to Manager of Education and Community Engagement.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
COMMUNITY PROGRAMS
  • Organizes and manages PBT dance programs at Hope Academy and Lauri Ann West Community Center including oversight and coordination of off-site movement/dance classes, aligning with Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School curriculum, staffing, student showings, and performances.
  • Support Buzzword programs to implement in person events, tabling activities and Buzz boxes
  • Collaborates with external organizations on programs for PBT audiences including the development and scheduling of the Dance the Story, Phipps, and other programs in partnership with other team members.
  • Collaborates with PBT Manager of Education and Community Engagement and current community program partners to identify ways to strengthen existing programs and program assessments.
  • Identifies new, strategic partnership opportunities to scale current programming in a sustainable and intentional way.

THEATER PROGRAMMING AND ACCESSIBILITY
  • Manages accessibility programs, including Adaptive Dance and Dance for Parkinson’s classes.
  • Coordinates PBT’s sensory-friendly performances and related initiatives, including workshops on-site and off-site.
  • Develop and implement accessibility services including large print and braille programs and audio description offered at the theater.
  • Creates education material and assists in audience programming at the theater.
  • Manages on-site initiatives related to accessibility, in collaboration with departments including Marketing and Development.
  • Collaborates with current local partners and identifies new partners to advance PBT’s accessibility initiatives.

ADMINISTRATIVE
  • Collects evaluation data for programs and initiatives of the department.
  • Assists in developing and reporting program objectives to grants manager.
  • Develop and implement appropriate tracking measures to assess and evaluate programs, in partnership with the Manager of Education and Community Engagement.
TEACHING
  • Teaching in a variety of community settings including but not limited to school classrooms, community centers, and libraries, up to 10 hours per week.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, and OTHER INFORMATION
Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple programs
  • Knowledge of inclusive and culturally competent teaching methods
  • Knowledge and understanding of the state of Pre K-12 dance education
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office and G Suite

Qualifications:
  • Two or more years of management experience required
  • Previous experience as an arts administrator and/or dance educator required
  • Ability to teach dance classes and present programs
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds required
  • Experience in ballet performance and/or teaching required
  • Degree in education or similar field strongly preferred
  • Reliable transportation to various program sites is necessary
Physical Requirements:
  • This position requires local travel, as well as night and weekend work.
  • The ability to sit or stand for several hours
  • The ability to routinely lift, carry, haul up to 25 pounds.
  • This position requires reliable transportation as the work environment will constantly shift, based on program locations.
